Hi I am a new owner - 3 days 2007 S type R I understand that I need to use 99 octane

- the nearest shell v power station is 15 miles away - has anyone tried the Tesco 99?

Welcome to the club, Steve.

My S type is the 2.7 diesel and I do use  Shell V Power diesel, though luckily the local Shell Station is only a few hundred yards away.

I have been advised against Supermarket fuel although other use it without any faults occurring think so long as the fuel is 99 RON it should be OK and on the occasion you pass a Shell Station you could top up your tank.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to JoC :)

My car is a diesel but I invariably use my local Sainsburys for fuel and I've never had a problem in terms of quality.

I concur.

I have had multiple diesels over the last 10-15 years and predominantly used supermarket fuel, without any issue.

I've been using the same in my S-Type since purchasing it.

Sainsburys was the best of the supermarket fuel in a survey  ---  but my local Shell Station is 400 yards away, and the nearest Sainsburys with a Petrol Station is 12 miles away  ---  so not cost effective to save 2p a litre.

Hi,

I most frequently use Tesco Momentum 99 in my V8 but don't have any concerns with Shell V Power or even ESSO Synergy Supreme+.  Ironically the higher rated Tesco variant is the cheapest around me.  I also use the Tesco in my twin turbo Legacy with no issues.

I do not use 95 RON petrol, ever.

I didn't find any issues with Supermarket fuel, or indeed with standard 95Ron.  I just found that running on Shell V Power gave me better fuel consumption, as well as a good smooth ride.

It is true they are designed to run on 95 RON.  Mine isn't new though and over 10 years old with over 100K on the clock, so I use the premium fuel to keep the performance up where it should be and keep down carbon deposits etc.  I think it would be even more appropriate for the supercharged higher performance versions.  I also use Wynns injector cleaner every few thousand miles.  I find the following is a good read.
