2011 XKR 5.0 V8 Head Gasket - Need help :(

Hi Guys,

Not the best first post to make but hoping someone can help. I have a 2011 XKR 5.0 Supercharged (X150).

I had issues with losing coolant but no sign of a leak - stratstone said they could not find any issues. I've now had smoke out the exhausts so would assume head gasket has gone on my car. I took my car to J.a.g in wolverhampton who said he can replace the head gasket. He has told me today he hasn't got the tools to work on the car so now I'm lost what to do (apart form annoyed how he said he could do the job).

Can anyone recommend someone in the west midlands who can do the newer Jags? I have tried northfields but they said that it's too much of a big job!?

Thanks..

Harmz, hi buddy.

Before you go down the head gasket route, there are several things you need to check just to be certain.

1. Is there any Oil in the cooling system/Is there any water in the Oil? (Any good mechanic can help with confirming this) but the obvious signs is a whitish foamy  substance inside  the Oil filler cap / oil floating inside your header tank

2. Have you had the cooling system leak check done at full operating temperature i.e. pressurised or better still, had the cooling system pressure checked where air is forced into the system and readings taken (most garages can perform this easy task) as it only takes a pin hole in a rubber hose whilst under pressure to loose your coolant.

3. This is not going to be liked by many but as last resort, try a bottle of K-Seal by Kalamex (around £10.00 from most car accessory stores) added to the cooling system.

Best of luck

Hi Harmz, and welcome to the Club.

Martyn has pointed you in the right direction and the easier and cheaper options are sometime the ones that work.

Talcum powder in the Radiator used to work in the old fashioned cars to stop a leak.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter.
