In September on the motorway my 05 2.7 diesel showed restricted performance mode warning but without loss of power, I got to my destination and on return to the car the warning lights were back to normal I had done about 30 miles on the motorway when this occurred.

On Friday past I was travelling to Gatwick on the motorway and after about 60 miles the same warning light came on and I lost a lot of power, I managed to get to the hard shoulder and then the car cut out totally, very scary, I also had a message to say about the handbrake was on but it wasn't. After trying to restart 4 or 5 times it restarted and I carried on to Gatwick and back home 180 miles without problem.

Got me a bit scared when it happened on the motorway, scared it might happen again, any ideas anyone?

Hi Glyn,

Andy is quite right.  The S type does need a battery in good condition.  I had a few very minor problems such as things like the heated rear window not working, and found that the car had been standing for a couple of months and really just needed a good charge putting into the battery.

The dealer I bought the car from was most apologetic when he found out that the mechanic who prepared the car had only given it an hour or two on the charger.

Regards,

Peter.

2 things to do/check. Check the handbrake cabling where it goes over the diff (the cables are known to chafe there) you could unplug the handbrake module in the boot and then see if it happens again.

Hello

my S Type 2.7 diesel doesn’t like going over 100mph. Not something I make a habit off don’t get me wrong, but owning a power full car and a open motor way I have wanted to try and get a little over 110mph and it has never let me.

MMA’s soon as I turn the engine on and off the car goes back to normal.

Any ideas?

many thanks

Mine does the same. ctrl Alt Del once the car has warmed up and all is well. There is a sensor in the exhaust I believe that gets stuck when cold. Once everything has warmed up, all OK.

Hi Levi,

I don't have the problem with my s type.  I have a speed control  on the passenger seat in the car who ensures that the speed of my s type never exceeds 70 mph.

Regards,

Peter.
