Hi all

New member recently bought a 2003 x type 3.0 sport manual. Initially bought as a stop gap but am quite enjoying it. However on 2 occasions when returning to car having not left it for very long it's not turned over. All ignition lights come on but nothing happens. When left a little longer car starts with no issues! Car runs beautifully with seemingly no issues. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Roger

The x type needs a good Battery, after starting the Engine make sure that the Battery gets fully Charged before switching the Engine Off.

Regards Tom.

Hi Tom and thanks for your reply.

It had had a good run prior to me switching it off, nearly an hour. When it does eventually decide to turn over its effortless and immediately starts, so there is plenty of juice in the battery. It just seems that something prevents it from turning over if I return to the car within a short time of switching it off.

Cheers

Hi Rog

The battery could have a dodgy cell, which could chuck up intermittent probs, my gut instinct tells me your problem could be starter motor related, sticky motor / solenoid, or perhaps just a loose electrical connection. Next time it fails to spin, give the starter motor a sharp rap with a stout bit of wood or metal bar, and try again, you may need to do this 2 or 3 times, check the wiring, if all seems well, as Tom points out I would get the battery tested. One thing in your favour at the moment, if you get stuck somewhere, being a manual you have the option of bump starting it!

Good luck

Steve
