Hi all,

Just a post of two halves really. Been lurking for a little while, thought I'd let you all know about a situation with the XFS and see if anyone else has had similar.

On the M62 with the cruise on at 70, for about 30 minutes, when 'active dynamic system fault' warning on the dash. Thought ok fair play it's under warranty.

Followed a minute later by 'battery not charging'.

Ok that's not so good, turns the heated seat off and the fans off.

Phoned Jag, got the jag assist number from them by text just in case, pulled into the nearside lanes in case it died and I had to stop on the motorway. Jag told me to bring it straight in on my way home if I could, and they'd look at it straight away, not to turn it off when I got there but to keep it running.

While on the phone, the cruise disabled, and I got all sorts of very fast warnings one after the other on the dash, so I was guessing it was on its last legs in terms of battery at that point.

It made it in to Jag, they had a look and said it was the main battery voltage that had dipped enough to cause a problem, and that along with me they suspected the alternator. Although, it had charged back to 100% and they couldn't cause fault with the alternator.

They put me straight into another XF (albeit not the S, it's still an R-Sport with a few options so it's not far off), told me they'd get back on it the next day and would get Jaguar Engineering involved.

So far I'm a happy chap. Not happy I've had the experience in a one year old car with 12k on the clock but at least happy to receive such great customer service and be looked after.

Stuart at Hatfield's Wakefield is the chap you need if you're in the area :)

Will post back the outcome.

So I got the news today. I'm in two minds.

In one sense I'm really glad that they've found a tangible reason it's got a fault which means I won't stick with an intermittent fault going in and out of the dealer.

On the other hand, the fault is a molten cable at the battery end of the cable on the positive terminal. They have said the reason is because the cable has 'worked its way loose' from the clamp and not been making a propper connection causing high resistance and melting.

The more I think about it, I can't see it. Something's shorted on something for somewhere for some time to cause a cable that thick to melt, surely?

Also, they were the last to touch the car at service a few weeks ago - not sure they'd disconnect the battery for that for any reason, it's only the first service - and then before that, they replaced under warranty the drivers door latch mechanism, and i know they disconnected the battery for that.

I've never touched it. It's 1 year old and 12k on the clock.

I need to have a look at the cable before I decide just how much I lose my mind, I need to know where the battery is situated and where this cable was - I need to work out if there was a risk of fire here, then i'll decide what I do next. in the mean time they're fixing it and i'm just awaiting further news.

Just hope it's not fried anything else, because the errors about lots of different systems are there - hoping it's due to battery voltage and poor connection more than any knock on effects.

This topic appears to have moved from its original intention.  I must advise posters that moving off topic is a great nuisance to the original poster who is both giving  useful information and requesting idea on an issue.

I trust all posters will comply.

Regards,

Peter.
