hi, my 03 reg s type 3.0v6 auto, has DSC not available, and occasionaly, park brake fault, i  checked the battery condition and only got 11.5 volts resting, charged it yesterday and today only 11.9v. could this be the problem?, i also noticed a date on the battery looks like the original one from new, jaguar stamped, made in germany 04 03.. april 2003. unbelievable? the car has only 50.000 miles with full service history. which battery do you guys reccomend? thanks for replies. derek.

Hi Derek,

Welcome to the JoC.

The S-types are notorious for their intolerance of less than perfect batteries.

In view of what you've said I'd be looking at a replacement battery before trying anything else.

thanks paul,  i bought the car in feb this year, the dsc message came on about september intermitantly at first but now stays on all the time, i cleaned the rear sensors and reluctor rings to no avail. when the battery is disconected will any fault codes be cleared, if not can they be left, or should they be cleared, thanks again.

Battery dis-connection doesn't clear fault codes Derek. You'd need a Mongoose or similar for that. Mongoose is the hardware / software diagnostics setup.

Hi Derek,

My s type has a Varta G3 95 AH 800 fitted by Jaguar.  As Paul says, the S type does like efficient battery, and minor electrical items such as heated windows, radio, etc will shut down when the battery is failing.  This is the Big Cat telling you that starting the car is far better than listening to the radio.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Derek

If you change your battery (which looks like a good idea) remember your radio code! the guys will tell you whether i'm right or wrong on that, I'm not too sure whether such things as seat / steering column settings will be lost?

regards

Steve

There is a list of things to do after a battery reset Steve. I've condensed it down to a PDF check-list which I can send to anybody who might want it.

The checklist also includes the "back-door" method of bypassing the radio code if you don't have it to hand.
