Hi Chris,

Try passenger compartment fusebox - Fuse F4.

This fusebox is located in the driver's side footwell to the right.  Get a torch before starting!

Really silly question Chris.   Is the master switch by the gear change switched on?  I say this because after a winter lay up I spent an afternoon searching for a fault then remembered the master switch

Good luck

Hi Pete,

The S type has only got cruise control switches on the steering wheel.  It is possible that cruise control is not fitted.

If I had glanced over to the left I would have noticed that it was an S type. I assumed it was an XK for some reason. Hopefully something simple Chris.

Hope I didn't send you looking for non existent switches.

Pete

no, you didnt send me on a wild goose chase p.d., but i think i might have a dodgy battery, since our little cold snap down south, ive had a gearbox foult light up, where it seems to be stuck in a gear, ( wont change up or down) but only just after start up, if i run for a short period and then switch off and start again, its fine, and when i did start again i had cruise control for a while!!

Hi Chris,

we had a similar problem recently with my wife's Nissan 4x4, it kept searching for gears, cruise would not work properly and it was running a bit rough plus the battery would go flat overnight and heater was a bit cool to say the least. I thought it was a battery problem so got that changed but problems continued, eventually after some considerable fault finding, I traced it to the thermostat, cost me 7bucks for a new one and after a 20 mile round trip everything started working correctly and battery has held its charge and has been fine since. Friend said that, if the engine cannot come up to the correct operating temp can be a cause of other issues with your vehicle management system. It's beyond me, but pleased it's running ok. Just thought I would mention it as you have similar issues albeit a different car. Good luck.
