Woke up this morning to find my battery dead when I tried to start the car. I know the car wont open with the remote so I tried the key fob in the lock, and it still wont open when I turn the key. I have come to the conclusion that the mechanism must be broke. Does any one know any other way to jump start this vehicle or how to get the trunk open in this situation? I really don't want to have it towed to the dealership, so please help if possible.

Thank you

Hi Chaz and welcome to the club.

I have heard about this problem and that some people have managed to access the boot [uK terminology] by getting to the battery by getting in by the rear seats.

I have also heard that there is a small battery charger that can charge the battery by plugging it into the power source/cigar lighter.

My s type has a key entry , luckily!

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter

Is it worth dropping this in the XF forum / Technical section? as you say, it could help a few members out of a tricky and costly spot of bother!

Regards

Steve

Unfortunately had the same problem from returning from holiday Sunday battery was dead and therefore, would not start the car. I simply placed my battery booster into the cigarette lighter socket which retrospectively trickle charged the battery. Half an hour later the battery turned the starter motor over and started the car. I took it for a decent drive and all was well. I'm in a fortunate position whereupon I can place the car in the garage and leave unlocked therefore, there is no drain on the battery when left standing on this occasion my Son had used the car returned to the garage and locked the car, idiot the garage is alarmed.

Hi everyone,

Going to give a quick update on the status of car. Still have not been able to charge battery or get into the boot.1st I tried to get in thru the rear seat, by taking off all 6 bolts that keep it in place, but I believe the latch on the inside of boot are keeping it in place b/c the seats didn't budge much. 2nd I tried to slow charge thru cigarette lighter for a couple hours but still no charge. 3rd I have called 3 jaguar dealership to find any terminals under hood and all have said that this model doesn't have any in that location. ..I have given in and had the dealership tow it in to the shop. I'll update on how they resolve this situation. .it's been a headache!!

Except, of course, if the lock mechanism is damaged.

It does appear that the modern Jaguar does not have some of the advantages that the older cars have, such as a key entry into the boot, and a dipstick! :D

Hi All

This is from the the XJ handbook, i suppose the options available to you are based on the 'Time & Place' you come across this problem, always good to have a plan B!

You would of course use your key to gain access to the inside of the car, via the drivers door (the Old fashioned way)

just in case the link does not take you to the correct page, its page 67, please note the WARNING! do not attempt to start the car using this method.

Hi all,

Just want to follow up with you all and let you know the issue has finally been resolved,  $750 bucks later, but well worth it. The shop was able to charge the battery by lifting the car to access a harness that connects to the battery underneath that runs along the passenger side. I had to buy a new battery b/c my old one wouldn't hold a charge. They had to program the battery so that it was calibrated correctly to the car also. There is nothing like having her parked back in the garage, and definitely a proud jag owner.

Thank you all for your help.

  • 6 years later...

Hi everyone,

I'm new in the forum. Just purchased a 2nd hand 2014 jaguar xf 3.0l v6 sc. Nice to drive till it did respond to me opening it. Used an emergency key it works on the doors, but won't work on the trunk/ boot.

i saw on the net people opening the xj model using jumpers on fuse box terminal. I looked for the same terminals in my fuse box , but cant't locate them to power it and use trunk opening buttons.

Can anyone help, I miss my super drives?
