Hi, can any one advise please, I have recently purchased my XType Estate on 2006 plate. It starts first time brilliant and runs like a dream, however once I`ve parked up and then come to re-start it seem to struggle, it does start again but sounds like its labouring, once going again it runs ok. Has anyone else suffered the same problem and can it be resolved without costing the earth.

Many thanks

Jim

Hi Jim

could be battery on its way out, or possibly a slow starter motor, normally a sign with slow cranking over, i would start with getting the battery tested

Cheers Steve, I dont think its battery because it starts perfect first time every time, its after its been run I get the problem, I`ve just read on here about hot starting and wondering if it could be that?

Hi Jim.

A member had the same problem about 18 months ago.  His 2.0 litre X Type Diesel would not start, and when he took it to a local dealer the bad news that he got was that the injectors and glow plugs needed changing --  and they could do that for only £1200 plus VAT.

The good news was that he had the Terraclean service for £109 and the car never had that problem again.

There is a Mobile mechanic in South Staffordshire who does the service : James Price -Mpbile technician/mechanic    Telephone Number 07949 137629.

He did the service on my drive on my 2.7 Diesel S Type.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter

Thanks for this, i`ve read a few posts that relate to the same problem and someone mentioned this Terraclean, it is quite baffling though because as I say, it starts perfect first time and runs like a dream, its when I come to start again if its only been turned off for few minutes. Nothing is showing up on the dash as there is any faults so I will look into the terraclean, do you thing it would be worth getting the AA out and get it plugged in to see if any faults appear.

Cheers

Hi Jim,

It could be worth getting the AA out to get their Code Scanner plugged in if it costs you nothing.

I have an OBD2 scanner myself, which is very handy  -- what part of Staffordshire are you from, as I live only two miles from the border.

I found the terrackean service very good as it improved both mpg and performance on my s type,

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter.

That's not too far from me, Jim.

I'm no engineer but I have got to know a bit about problems, and what to do to sort it out.

I will PM you.

Peter.

Hi Jim,

usually on diesels this time of year, its glow plugs, but glow plugs are mainly when the cars cold and first thing in the morning

but yours is just after its just stood for a few hours,

I'd be tempted to swap the diesel filter and check the air filter

cheers

Hi Joe

Thanks for your response

It has not long had a service so I`m hoping al the filters was changed then, I have decided to have have a process done called Terraclean, this apparantly cleans all the engine including injecters and glow plugs.

Its the cheapest option for starters, lets hope it cures it

Cheers

Hi Jim,

I think that Terraclean is the best option. It cleans out the whole of the few system, and is particularly good with the diesel engine and did work with another member's 2.0 litre diesel.
