Hi all great to be here with like minded people.

I have a 2011 XF 3 ltr diesel V6 Lux bought in July 2015 with only 34 k miles on the clock. Recently took it for its due service at approved Perrys Jaguar in Huddersfield, to be told both rear brake caliper seals had perished and would need replacing at a cost in excess of £550 for both. Also told there was an Oil leak on the engine and this was normal?? I have a year extended warranty with Car Care plan which runs out in May 2016. I checked back over its service history and it had new brakes and discs in 2014 with a clean down of the calipers done then again by Jaguar approved.

My question is should the calipers be perished on this prestige car with such low mileage/age and is there a chance the warranty should cover as I believe could be a defect? Have had cheaper cars like VW before and not had calipers go so quickly.

Also am a bit disturbed that the receptionist fobbed me off with it has 'an Oil leak on the engine' and this was normal????I asked the service mechanic to ring me back to discuss and they never bothered.

Love the car but a bit disappointed by the above......

Any observations welcome. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Club, Nenad.

I think it is rather peculiar that the seals should have perished so quickly.  I was once told that the discs on my Rover Sterling and needed replacing.  I sought an opinion from my mobile mechanic and he told me that they were OK -- and indeed they passed the MOT without an advisory for the next three years.

Oil leaks are not normal and let no-one tell you  so.

I would find an independent Jaguar specialist  --  there is one in Doncaster who has some good reports from members, and get some independent advice, and probably a better financial deal on their replacement if necessary.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks Peter for the swift reply. Yes I will be seeking independent Jaguar specialists out.

I only went to Perrys because I had to satsfy its last visit to an approved dealer for the warranty to remain intact.

I've thought about putting pen to paper as have issues with Perrys before when I had a Mazda rx8.

Will not be revisiting them ever again methinks. Great site by the way.

Thanks again.

Where in Yorkshire are you? Hatfields in Wakefield are the nuts, go and see those guys. And gals. Without knowing the construction of the calipers, if they were stripped cleaned and rebuilt I'd be asking if they've been cleaned with something that's great for brake dust but not so great for rubber, and whether that's contributed to the seals.
