On my XF (1) I have fitted front wind defectors. Will say they don't defect any wind lol! But worth there weight in gold by allowing the front windows to be dropped by 2" even in the worst of weather as before if open slightly in the rain the sweep of the wipers the rain ran around the A pillar into the window and straight onto the armrest window and mirror switches. (2) Is my DOD LS460W dash cam which has no problem picking up a GPS through the heated screen.

I have done quite a few over the years.  Several car radios, one 8 track player, carpets, rear window demister, wing mirrors, rear seating in a small van, seat belts,  but the most enjoyable was a small oven heated by the exhaust manifold, which would cook a small chicken in just over an hour and a half.  _ I nearly forgot a bracket in the boot for the starting handle!

Heaters were then standard fitting.

Why are cars not fitted with a starting handle now ? , think of the problems it would solve with a auto car and a flat battery, but I think it would only be us old boys with the knack of using one it would benefit.  ( starting a diesel elevator engine on a cold frost morning).

Hi David,

I thing the starting handle disappeared when front wheel drive and transverse engines appeared.

There is a story about an inoffensive old guy in a pub drinking his half of Guiness, when in came a chap in a Judo suit and gave him a Karate chop. He then put a £20 note behind the bar and said "when he wakes up tell him 7th Dan Judo Medallist".

The following evening the chap in the Judo suit was drinking his pint of lager, when in came the old guy who crept up behind him and clunked him on the back of the head.  He then put the same £20 note behind the bar and said "when he wakes up tell him Austin A40, 1962, starting handle."

Regards,

Peter.
