Good morning everyone,

New to the forum. Last night I was lucky enough to win a 1998 XJR8 on eBay which is being picked up on Sunday. I have been looking at Jag's for ages and this one came up at a fantastic price and with all the necessary maintenance done, needless to say, I'm extremely excited.

Thanks all,

Jordan

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the reply, this will be my first Jag so I am completely new to the Jaguar experience. I have done lots of research on common faults and it appears Tensioner guides, Nikasil and gearbox issues seem to be the big ones. The Pistons and Block was apparently changed for a new steel lined one 40k miles ago (tensioners replaced too), and the transmission and diff make no noise. I have been looking into the servicing of the 722.6 transmission and will hopefully do this myself asap for peace of mind unless the service history shows its been done recently.

Being 22 its just insurance that is trying to crucify me at the moment. Oh the joys of being a younger driver.

Regards,

Jordan

Hi Jordan,

There is one thing about being old is that you were once young and probably drove old bangers in the days without the MOT and had a top speed of around 60mph.  The young then had problems with cars that usually kept them fixing them on Saturdays so that they could get out on Sundays.

Regards,

Peter.
