Good afternoon all!

I come to the forum not as a Jaguar owner but as someone who will be helping to look after my partners X Type.

She is running a 2003 2.5 manual that has covered 88,000 miles and is in generally good condition having inherited it from her father when he gave up driving. I have already fixed a couple of minor issues, changed a smashed drivers mirror, changed the cabin filter etc but as a Mercedes owner I have little specific knowledge of these cars although I have a reasonable amount of mechanical knowledge (have re- built Landrovers and worked on other cars over the years) so I am hoping to be able to add something to the forum as well as learning.

There are a couple of things I need advice on but will look for the appropriate section to post if I cannot find he answers myself.

A good weekend to all.

Regards

David

Welcome to the club, David.

Sharing experiences with cars [irrespective  of make] is always good, and that is how this club thrives.

I used to have a 2.5 AWD x type manual, and I found it a great car to drive. It is quick and a great road holder.

I look forward to your contributions and how you get on with the Jaguar.

Regards,

Peter.

Hello David and a warm welcome to the JAGUAR OWNERS CLUB. Before the XKR I owned a SL55 then before that a SLK32 I still have a CLK270 CDI for which I use for work therefore, was a Mercedes man. Got a problem with the CLK at moment OBD11 is informing me that the EGR valve is gone, I need to know how long it takes to change.

My MB is petrol but my local MB independent mentioned EGR valves to me when giving advice before I purchased. He says that gummed up / sticking EGR valves are a known problem and you can perform a "delete" modification on some engine types although it can throw an error that sometimes needs a session on Star to get around. I believe it takes him around an hour to remove/ refit and test, possibly longer if cleaning out a very badly coked one.
