A few weeks ago I purchased my first Jaguar, a 2005 X-Type 2.0D. Really pleased with it. Initially it had condensation in the driver's side headlamps. The dealer I bought it from said once I'd use the headlamps for a while this would dissipate the condensation. To be honest I didn't believe him, however having use the headlamps for quite a while absolutely no sign of condensation in them at all.

Two things I'd like to ask:

Firstly, do the wing mirrors fold in to avoid damage when I'm parked? I've looked in the manual and it mentions electric wing mirrors and shows a button which folds the wing mirrors in - but I don't have that button on my car) and it also says that they fold in in case of a collision. I suspect that they do fold in however I don't want to take the chance of forcing them only to find that that wasn't supposed to happen! Any advice on that will be much appreciated.

 

Secondly, and more importantly, the car doesn't alert me if I accidentally leave the lights on when I switch the engine off. I believe this is supposed to happen and someone who knows more about cars than me has told me that the appropriate piece of kit is connected but just isn't working. My question is what is this piece of kit known as, as I've tried googling it so that I could order a new one, but can't find anything. Again any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Steve, and welcome to the club.

If Bertieboy spots this he would be able to help, not just with the solution but possible with supplying the bits you need.

In the meantime you could check the fuses that affect the light alerts.

Good to meet you and thanks for the suggestion about the fuses. I'll try that later or maybe tomorrow as it's heading towards getting a little dark now.

 

And hopefully Bertieboy will spot this and can come up with something as well.

I've had a look at the fuse box and information on the fuses and fuse box in the owner's handbook but can'ttell which fuse controls this "lights left on" alert and wondering if it's in the engine compartment fuses F3 which is for horns on a diesel only or F27 which mentions it's for, amongst other things, battery backed sounder.They're the only ones I can see that might be the ones.

 

If anyone's got any other information appreciate it

The Moderators have no problem with an issue being mentioned in the "New Members Introductions" Forum, and if they feel that it is in the wrong place they will move it to the correct spot.

I haven't made any progress with it. No one seems to know the official name for this thing. I figure a trip to my local Jaguar dealership might be in order, if only to ask what the "lights-on alert" things is actually called :o)

Anyone else got any idea?

Maybe this may help? If the link doesn't take you directly to the page it's 2,058 - 2,059 I'm talking a punt it could be the GEM Generic Engine Module? It looks like it could be in the right place? The guy's will of course know if I'm talking rubbish
