What is the average  charge for gearbox sump filter and fluid change, cars done 95000mls now so i thought i would give it a treat, been quoted £300. Thought that was reasonable so its booked in for wednesday. What do you guys think?

Ian, with the later six speed transmission, you need a very specific type of ATF and it is ridiculously expensive. In addition to the fluid, they should also change the sump pan and gasket as well as the filter. The transmission sump pan is made of plastic and has all the engineering strength of a bar of chocolate on a hot day so it is to be hoped that they replace it because they are prone to warping, especially when removed.

Taking this into consideration, I'd be happy to pay £300 if I couldn't do the job myself.

It is easily "doable" DIY if you can get the car off the ground, indeed, I did mine with the help of a friend just recently. The fluid and parts alone cost £100+

Tameside Transmissions in Manchester are doing the work and he has said i can watch every step, and i hope to get a few piccys. I am just nosey by nature. As an aside i did get a quote from main dealer, they quoted £150 for sump kit, £30/ltr trans fluid plus labour and VAT Total cost £450

HI

the cheapest i have been able get a service kit for the 6 speed zf 6HP26 is £197

for that you get filter(sump), 7 litres of zf lifeguard 6, mechatronics sleeve, filter/sump pins and you have to do it yourself

its quite easy to change this, but will need good access to the bottom of the car, car has to be lifted for good access and level

local jaguar dealer charges £400 for this

or i can do it myself and pay £80 to have the software updated and the adaptations reset.

youll find most quotes out there that wont use genuine zf parts

personally i'd only use genuine zf parts, and for how often it got to be done, £197 for the parts aint bad

cheers

Cheers for all suggestions guys, the company do seem to know what there talking about the technician has even insisted on changing the drain plug on renewal of the sump and filter.

Ian, just for info, the drain plug comes as part of the new sump, maybe he means the level plug?

@Gordy, I used one of the kits from Germany which cost in the region of £125. Seems to be fine so far.

I did not know that! I will be having words as they were initially going to charge me £20 quid for one. Just hope they live up to the reviews, all good and many prestigious vehicles in their compound so heres hoping.

I am assuming he was reffering to the drain plug. But i will be present when the work is carried out and nothing will go unnoticed.
