My S type came off the Production line ar the Castle Bromwich Factory 9 years ago today.

I have given it a great polish, being as it cannot eat cake to blow candles out.

I think I must have mellowed with age, Frank

When I was working and there was a problem they would threaten those dissenting/malingering that they would send for me.

"Old Peter", ...in our young days (far far away),  we used to give the birthday boy (never the girl) the "bumps". A tradition no doubt, now banned by the 'Elf an' Safety mob.  Make sure your beloved "S"  doesn't resurrect the practice.:winkiss:

Hi John,

Just back from the Lake District for the weekend to celebrate 49 years of being married to a wonderful lady.

But no bumps for the S Type -- smooth run for both ways -- 450 miles with 42 mpg one way and 41.7 return with bad traffic jams.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Paul,

It was a great trip all round.  We left the M6 at exit 36 near Kendal and went round the Furness Peninsula road --  I know it well - a rather narrow and hilly route and the Jaguar was absolutely brilliant.

The Hotel we stayed in was a Country house hotel - Ennerdale Country house Hotel - which I would recommend to anyone going to somewhere for a bit of country air.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter,  The Lakes area is just over the hill to where I live, about 30 - 45 minutes drive away, depending on how much of the A66 they are digging up.   I have been there twice this week as weather has been fine. It's a pity the road from Grasmere to Keswick is still closed, having been washed away during the floods. But Grasmere is a lovely little place anyway.  Please don't take this wrong as being a "newby" I'm not suggesting anything, but when I was with the (whisper this) ...BMW Z3 drivers club ,  we used to have annual drives around lakes.  Not frenetic driving but at a fairly gentle pace. These generally lasted 2 days as we stayed at some local hotel. Such an outing needs some organising though. Glad you enjoyed the area and that you missed the rain. Its claimed that it rains for one out of every three days!.. Fortunately ATM there are not too many tourists.

Finally, congrats on your marriage. It gets better the longer it lasts.:yahoo:

Hi John,

Closed roads were a bit of a devil on Monday.  Doris, the Satnav, was very confused but my knowledge of the area really helped me.

The plan for going back was via Keswick, over Dunmail Raise into Grasmere and then via Windermere towards Kendal, Milnthorpe, and then the M6.

But we had to go via the M6 all the way.

But never mind, there are more years.

Regards,

Peter.
