Hi all, not been about for a bit, hope you all keeping well?

Finally I was able to find the time to take the S Type 3.0 Sport 200 for the necessary software upgrade a couple of months back.

First time, couldn't get the software to load so the garage loaded it manually and tied to run the car through the necessary 'learning' mirage. Seemed ok for a while then the erratic gear changes started to appear again along with the dreaded 'slamming' into gear at low speed and the occasional 'thrumming' noise coming from the torque converter (this happens when it decides to change gear and the revs are too low for that gear).

Second time, no go at all, car wouldn't accept the software at any price.

Third time, booked the car in for a full day for investigation, still cant find out why the car isn't accepting the software.

Any ideas guys, anyone come across this?

HI

It can be done with mongoose lead but you need to be sure exactly of what your doing

I paid £80 at my local jaguar indy and he did a great job of updating and resetting the adaptions and it drove lovely after

I would reset the adaptions my self, but software update on trans, i would not do, if you get it wrong, then you can brick it.

jaguar update and reset adaptions after the auto box Oil change service, its part of the gearbox service

cheers

hi Joe, its not something I personally attempt bud. The garage is my local jag Indy. I was just asking if anyone has had a similar experience because they are having this issue with mine. I trust the garage as they've looked after my last three jags. He does say that when my car is plugged, no info comes up on the screen to do with gearbox type, version, software version etc.

suspect its my car and not the garage.

hi

I have used them before, they should be ok with jaguar s-type's

the only thing is i could recommend is to get it checked by a jaguar dealer, just to be sure

i would not say it the car as it comunicated with it the first time, so that would say the coms should be ok

it might be worth taking it to a dealer and paying for an hours labour, just to get it plugged in and see what faults there diagnostics show up

the learning procedure by driving it is old hat now, im sure jaguar do it all by the equipment and software

cheers

cheers Joe, good advice.

I will get it in as soon as I can. Think my closest dealer would be Stratstone in Hanley.

Thanks again bud, I will report back.

Make sure that the battery is being charged when this being done. I learnt the hard way through having to buy a new TCM at £1200 because the battery died half way through flashing using a mongoose and a laptop.

I have the same problem with my gearbox, the slamming when changing down and also the noise from the convertor. Could it be I only need the software update as I have been looking at getting a 2nd hand autobox fitted?

Most dealerships charge 30 minutes labour David, roughly £80. I would expect an indy to charge significantly less.

I wrnt to transmission specialist yesterday and they told me they could only fit new gearboxes and would cost over 2k to do.

Said they couldn't programme 2nd hand gearboxes  so they were ruled out.

Have been to stratstone jaguar and they told me they don't do the software upgrade.

Got the impression they were only interested in dealing with people who had big wads of cash to buy new cars.

But stuck now really.

Their loss I'd say David,

Perhaps a local indy?

Rang them this morning and they won't do it. They said it doesn't work and customers were wasting money doing it.

They are a good independent jag garage aswell.

I had mine done and it made a significant difference although it didn't completely cure the surge at 40mph it's much better.

Had it done by a local Jag specialist who warned me that the results are "variable"
