Hi Shane, and welcome  to the club.

Is that when the "S" button is pressed?    But also are you driving quite quickly?

You have the 5 speed Ford gearbox, and my s type has the ZF 6 speed gearbox so I cannot give you a comparison.  But there will be some members with a similar model to yours who will assist.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Shane

What revs is it shifting at

My S-type R, when driven lazy, all ways shifts at 1500 RPM

and depending on how much you press the accelerator pedal, effect what rpm it shifts at,

but with the "S" pressed it make the shifts at higher rpm, and if you press the pedal all the way, so it hits the limit switch at the bottom, it wont shift till revs top out

also if you speedo is not working right or you have fault lights on, it can confuse the shifts as they go off speed, revs and throttle position

also get the Oil level checked, because if its low, at speed the Oil is thrown every where and the Oil starvation can make it do strange things

cheers

Joe

hello thanks for helping I don't drive it fast just enjoy the ride and all the other gears change between 2000 and 2500 rpm but 5th is around 4000 and 4500rpm and that's not in s mode say if your doing 70 it stays in forth and its littel noisy the engine because your revs are a high if that makes sense

Hi Shane,

I tested out my s type this morning. It is a 2.7 litre diesel so the revs be not show a direct comparison,

Driving normally the gearbox went into 6th gear at 55 mph and at 70 mph was cruising nicely at 2000 rpm.

Just a comparison that is not too accurate, I would think that your car should go into top gear at 55 mph.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Peter.

Hi old Peter mine doesn't go in to 5th until your doing 70+ if you don't stay above 70+ it goes back in to 4 so you have to do 60+ in 4th
