This topic has been aired before, but as the SERVICE REQUIRED IN 1650 MILES came on this morning, I thought it might be useful to repeat it.

1. With ignition key in the OFF position, press down the CLEAR/RESET button. [Trip Computer]

2. Turn on ignition and release the CLEAR/RESET button.

3. Press down and hold down Trip button on left stalk and press down CLEAR/RESET button.

4 . Continue to hold down both buttons  and the message SERVICE MODE RESET  should appear after about 10 seconds when the reset is complete.

If you have been fast enough  --  3 seconds to do 1, 2, and 3. that is job done.  If it doesn't, try again.  I do it every year or more and Have only got it done once first time.

If you go to a dealer and ask him to clear it, he might do it for nothing, or he might blind you with science about needing to plug it in to the Jaguar Diagnostic system, get you a free cup of coffee, keep the car for 25 minutes and charge you £70.

Hi Peter,

I need to get rid of similar message on my XF, do you know if that is possible? Thanks

Strangly I had this message appear this morning, now cleared, so a very fortuitous post for me. My thanks for posting Peter.

PS It only took me five attempts [emoji15]

I am uncertain, Tom, but if the dashboard is similar it is worth a try.  Your XF is only a tear younger than my s type and similarities must exist.

Regards,

Peter.

XF doesn't have a CLEAR/RESET button so it doesn't work unfortunately

Have tried this a few times as well but with no success:

1. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch

2. Turn ignition on without applying the foot brake.

3. Release the rear fog lamp switch.

4. Press and hold the trip button

5. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch.

6. Continue to hold the trip computer and rear fog lamp switches.

7. The message centre should display "resetting service mode" and then
"service mode reset"

8. Release the trip computer and the fog lamp switch and turn the ignition off.

All of this needs to be completed within 3 seconds!
