diesel engine swap

Hi Ive just joined the owners club,  ive got a 2007 2lt diesel that ive managed to blown the engine on, ive bought a donor car that had a rear end shunt so im going to swap the complete engine and gear box. The haynes manual states to drop the engine out the bottom,  but im thinking for me to do it on the drive it may be easier to hoist it out the top,  does anyone know if it will actually come out of the top on not?

Your be fighting a losing battle trying to remove your old engine from the top! Try it with the donor car 1st and you see what I mean..Your be best with a hammer and chisel chop  the donor body work. Undo the Steering joint, struts, brake & fuel pipes and subframe and drag the whole lot clear! Find a garage with a lift and let them do it (Its not rocket science as same as a Ford) and let them fit the replacement as 1 unit removed to save pulling the drive shafts + labour costs (if you think your legs or brakes are better you can change at later date) Start to finish should take about 6 hours labour which I expect your recover sell the donor car parts.

I went through this.  I bought an 05 Xtype for £200 with a blown engine.  Bought a secondhand one which my garage fitted turned out the top end was sha**ed...  So got my money back then bought anonother with turbo and injectors etc.  The turbo was the wrong one so the scrap yard changed it.  Engine was fitted and the injectors were duff.  Engine would run but very rough...  even though they were correctly programed up.  They required replacing at £200 each.!!  So the car cost about £2200 all in to get on the road.  With all the delays about 3 months..  Happy with the car in the end, although the mpg seems a little high for a 2.0D...  I am getting 37 to 40mpg.. But the common rail injectors are a pain...
