Hi All,

New member here with a slight problem.

I have a 2007 XKR (love it !!) but I have a strange clicking/ticking noise coming from the engine compartment around the offside air bar position. Its like a Geiger counter and happens even when the engine is off. It has been ticking away all night, yet starts and performs as normal. I wasn't too worried about it, but it is becoming really annoying now and prior to strolling down to Guy Salmon, I was wondering if anyone knew what I might be letting myself in for ??

Any ideas anyone ??

Welcome to the Club, David.

Hopefully someone with electrical expertise can assist you.

I am a bit mystified myself  --  gurgles I can understand but my only guess that the clicking is an attempt by the ECU to open on close a valve.

Check that the battery is OK first, as batteries that are running down a bit do tend to let the electrics do funny things.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks Peter and thanks for the welcome.

The clicking hasn't stopped for 2 days now and the wife is complaining as it sounds in the bedroom - I think the clicking is too fast and erratic for any sort of rhythm !!

Anyway, the battery was new last year and everything else seems OK but strange that it just keeps going as one would have thought that it would give up at some stage. It could be a parking sensor fault I guess as that pops up on the dash now and again as I park the front close to the hedge, but who knows.

I have a friend who is going to put his analyser on it to see what error codes it throws up, but he is away for a few days so that's why I threw it out into the forum.

Should I let you know the outcome as I am sure someone else will have a similar problem at some stage ??

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave,

I have learnt a lot about Jaguars from experiences shared on the Club Forums.

Parking sensor is a thought.  Obviously the sensors do not come into play if the ignition is turned off, but what knows what it will do if it is faulty.

Keeps us in touch, as a solution will be useful.

Regards,

Peter.

Alarm sensor is another thought as with remote locking etc. as it is obviously on all the time, but I will let you know as soon as it is diagnosed.

Thanks Peter.

Hi Peter,

Just to let you know, the fault has been diagnosed as the alarm backup battery module shorting out. It can happen if there is water ingress into the module which creates arcing. Guy Salmon in Maidstone diagnosed it and said that they haven't seen it in the XKR, but have experienced it before.

One for the knowledge base ??

Regards
