I may have just done something completely daft or possibly got myself a bargain. Time will tell.

We currently live in France but we will be moving to Spain the day after tomorrow. I have been looking for a cheap second car to use in Spain to avoid putting too many miles on my XF but I wanted something that I could still enjoy driving. I was looking at an S type amongst others.

Prices for used cars in Spain are much higher than UK so I thought I would buy in UK and then spend £650.00 to deliver it direct to Spain once we got there. Then we ran out of time and I couldn't get back to Uk to look at anything.

Then I saw this ad http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201606134882442?radius=1500&search-target=usedcars&model=s-type&price-to=3000&sort=locasc&page=5&make=jaguar&onesearchad=new%2Cnearlynew%2Cused&body-type=saloon&searchcontext=default&postcode=da12lp&logcode=p&adPos=7

After hatting to the seller, checking old MOTs on line to verify mileage and keeping my fingers crossed I went ahead and bought it, sight unseen. Have I done the right thing? Time will tell I suppose.

Am I barking? There are those who would say so I'm sure. Oh well, something to look forward to.

Would anyone else have done such a thing?

You're only crazy if £1,750 +£650 delivery is a sum of money you really can't afford to lose.

On paper the car looks like a bargain and a very tidy bargain at that.  But, that is incredibly low mileage for a 17 year old car.  Just over 3,000 miles a year?  That would be a bit of a question mark for me.  But, you said you have checked MOT's etc and again, looking at the pics, the wear (or lack of it) on the seats and steering wheel would seem to back up it's low mileage.

You're a braver man than me but fingers crossed you have picked up a nice little bargain there.

For what it's worth, the car looks good from pics, but I just have to add, I do about 3 - 4K a year in mine, so there are cars out there, that do that sort of mileage

Last year I bought a 2000 S-type with 72,000 kms (45,000 miles) on the clock sight unseen from Perth on the far side of Australia and had it shipped here.  It's proven to be an excellent buy.  In fairness it wasn't really sight unseen as I had a friend over there check it out for me but I hadn't seen it till it arrived in my driveway.   So yes there are good low mileage cars available and I hope yours proves to be a good one for you.
