Hi

Has anyone else noticed that the auto/start stop seems a bit random. It normally cuts in without any issues but today it didn't cut in once. I don't have a long journey to work and back but it normally comes in at a traffic light or in traffic. Does anyone know the conditions when it doesn't switch off. The manual is not very detailed with this.

thanks

Dino.  I have a 2013 Jaguar XF.  The stop/start worked ok for about six months but then did not cut out.  I took it back and the dealer said that as I was only making local journies the batteries were not being charged sufficiently for the stop/start to kick in.  They kept my car overnight for a trickle charge and that worked for about two days.  As a service was due in a couple of months it suited me to raise the matter then but it was not to be.  The battery was totally flat one day and I had to call out Jaguar Assistance.  The technician was excellent and did a check with a piece of equipment that showed that the battery itself was faulty and gave me a certificate with the fault confirmation code to give to the dealer.  Battery replaced under warranty and worked perfectly ever since.  Hope this is of help.

Thanks Colin,

I might have to get the battery checked or go for a long run and see if it starts working again.

Hi

All stop start systems monitor battery voltage and if your battery is getting old and not holding charge correctly, then the stop/start system will not work as often

its a good sign of battery condition, the more often the stop/start works, the better the battery condition

new battery should cure it, unless there's some kind of callibration jaguar do with the software plugged in,

it all depends how much you like the stop/start, personally I dont like it, as it can cause more harm than good, there only put on now days to make claim to better mpg's and they bring the road tax band down aswell, but every time the engine stops, so does the charging system, so extra load on the battery and electrics, also  when engine stops, so does the water pump, so the engine it self becomes hotter, especially around the cylinders and cylinder head, your air con stops and then when you engine starts, theres the extra load of everything having to catchup, battery has to charge up, load on aternator, air con and cooling sytem, it just put extra load on all the engine components

they say that the most wear happens when an engine starts up, there might be a difference starting once or twice and compared to twenty plus times

anyway I think a new battery should fix it

cheers

Thanks Joe,

I have only had the car for a month and bought it as an approved used Jaguar so I am going to call the dealer and get them to have a look at it next week some time.

The auto start/stop started working again following a 30min motorway blast, might have given the charge it needed or perhaps it cleared the particulate filter, anyway no need to visit the dealer now.
