Hi Brett, and welcome to the club.

I think that you will find that out of the 130,000 or so S Type owners 90% never mention that they have had no problems at all.  Having problems and looking for assistance is another matter.

I bought my s type  SE 2.7D on an 07 plate almost exactly 3 years ago, with 48k on the clock and two previous owners.  I have had a couple of minor issues which took minutes to rectify, and one small water leak which will be rectified tomorrow.  Otherwise no problems whatsoever.

The last s types were made at the end of 2007 and you will be buying a car that is at least 9 years old.  Obviously there will be some issues -- there are some with brand new cars -- but the 2.7 Diesel  Gemini engine is a superb piece of engineering and is the result of a collaboration between Ford and Peugeot. The ZF gearbox is one of the most used automatic gearboxes, and is currently the favoured gearbox is most top car models.

If you find a car that has a good service history and has been well looked after you will be rather pleased.

X Type owners will also assist you.  I used to own a 2.5 petrol X type and found it a great car and I would probably still have it if it had not been taken away by a local gang [3 in number] whose made a living from carjacking and who received an 8 year holiday in one of Her Majesty's Hotels.

Regards,

Peter.

thank you for the reply Peter

i do hope all 3 got to be bunked up with a rather large effeminate s*x pest who calls them "Tracy" "Lucy" & "Mary Sue" and they dread the lights out bell!

from what i have been reading on here and around the internet the pre DPF are up to 2005 and have the turned down exhausts but i am not too worried with the DPF anyway as its a reason to give it a good day out and a blast on the motorway,

Hi Brett,

The DPF has caused me no problem at all, in spite of the fact I only do short runs for the most part.  There are many additives just to boost up the engine performance.  I only use premium fuel which the car likes.

Regards,

Peter.
