I keep returning to this website to read about the latest financial disasters befalling innocent Jaguar drivers.I had a Saab for five years and it cost me nothing apart from normal servicing. My Jaguar 2.2 diesel X type has been with me for five months and so far has been ok but reading all this stuff means I have no confidence in the car and I do not think it will be in my company much longer.I am going to Ireland in August and I suspect I will take my wife's Golf

Hi Walter

I have to admit, i'm a bit bemused by your terminology "Innocent Jaguar drivers" it would be helpful if you could give your definition please?

hi

I've had my s-type for over 12 months and never had any issues

you see the few problems that people have on here, are on older cars, not the newer models

and when you think how many jaguars there are out there and how many people on here that actually have problems, its only a very small percentage

the problems with forums sometimes is that 90% of people on here, only come on here because they have a problem with there car, the other 10% come on here because they enjoy there jaguar and like to share there knowledge to help others, I think my s-type is great, the STR is a beast and for all you diesel boys out there, You dont know what your missing!!!! LOL

Would'nt swap mine for anything

cheers

Joe

Wish I could afford to run the STR, hopefully will be  able to in a couple of years. Never owned a V8 and have promised myself I will one day.

As for faults my car is a 2006 which I have only just bought and have a few niggles, but to be fair I like my cars 100% ok. Once these few jobs have been done it should be a joy from then on.

The S-type is one of those cars that you don't mind spending on, because it rewards you with such a pleasure to drive

my Saab which the Jaguar replaced cost me an arm and a leg in faults, I spent on it the same amount as it cost to buy, and still needed a fair amount spending on it. Never had a car that was so harsh and crashy to drive.

I've run two Jaguars for the last 2 years, 18mths with a 2.1 V6 X-type and 6 months with an XJ6. Apart from servicing and MOT (no advisories) all I've done is replace the ignition coils in the X-type, because one had water ingress, so I did them all for peace of mind, and I've replaced one faulty parking sensor in the XJ6 (DIY).

As Joe says the forum is primarily for troubleshooting so you will hear the less attractive side of Jaguar ownership most of the time, plus the diesels are well known not to be as reliable as the petrol models. It's all about history, condition and more history. Get a good one and they're as reliable as any other brand, especially if previous owners have maintained them properly.

All I'd say is if I had a choice between driving my Jag's and suffering the odd niggle, or a Golf, it would be the Big Cat every time.

Hi Wat,

If you read the news you will only hear about aeroplane crashes rather than the number of successful flights  ---  a very small percentage.

Many owners come on to this Forum to ask questions and to get assistance with the issues they have.  It is the same on all car forums.

I have had Jaguars for 5 years, and my S Type has been with me for 3 of them without an issue, there the a new water pump yesterday.

I went to Ireland last year - the car was great, although two brake light bulbs failed and local tyre fitting garage  supplied and fitted new ones for 5 euros.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Walter,

please don't think I am being unsympathetic to your concerns as worrying about something really isn't worth it, you perhaps should sell the car and move on with something else, however, you say your car has been trouble free, so why worry ? Any issues surley would have presented themselves by now.

last year I bought my son an immaculate Saab 9-3 ttid4, it was fine until 4 months (came with 3 months warrantee)  had passed and then developed a number of issues that cost me another 3k to keep it on the road, so I guess my message is unreliability can come with any car.

As above , any car make / model can develop faults . You could buy two brand new cars , service them exactly the same and one could be trouble free and the other a dog . That's just cars for you . I have experienced both and a few problems here and there wouldn't put me off any model of car . The only thing i look out for when buying a car are known common expensive faults , which need to be considered before buying .

Hi there everyone, I'm yet another Saab to Jag man, I loved both my Saab 9-5's, the last one was the Aero Anniversary Edition on an 08 vintage, and while I thought it looked wonderful, and went like a cruise missile, in sport mode, the cheapening of the Saab brand by GM was appalling, in my humble opinion, so I will NEVER EVER buy, or knowingly buy a GM product again!!!!

My 1st Saab 9-5 on an X plate ( 2000 ) was a joy, but she was showing, or starting to show her age, so a replacement with the 9-5 Aero ........ Absolutely fine, for the first 18months or so, maybe a little longer, but then silly things like the Xenon headlights flashing when switching  off, and a myriad off other electrical gremlins, that sadly, made me lose much faith in, what had been my pride and joy  .......... Just about ALL the faults I had, in my opinion, I put down to General Motors, and their cost cutting appetite at Saab ..... such a damn shame, and SHAME on them!!!!

I now have my, in my humble opinion again, my AWESOME Ultimate Black XF, and while I have been very glad of the unlimited dealer supplied 2 year warranty, she has been an absolute total and utter joy, and thats an understatement!!!!!!!

Best Wishes to you all,

Ttfn :w00t::yes:

Dear Walter,

Why stress yourself so.  If you heed all the above encouraging and positive responses you might eventually realise that a Forum is principally to support members with problems.

Your 2.2d doesn't appear to have any problems, indeed you say that it's behaving 'OK' and you seem to be enjoying it.  Do it.  Love it.  Take it to Ireland in August.

The words 'mountain' and 'molehill' spring to mind.

Bless your Jag and all who travel in her.
