2012 3.0D XF -S auto rolling back on hill

Hi,

I recently changed my 2010 XF (3.0L D) for a 2012 XF-S (3.0 D).

Really happy with the car but noticed this morning that it was rolling back when stationary on a hill.

My previous XF didn't do this and I'm positive that the current one wasn't doing this last week (the same hill for the record).

Have I got a problem that should be looked at?

I know it sounds obvious but I'd like some advice before going back to my dealer who will inevitably fob me off if I don't do some research first.

Thanks.

Hi Alistair, and welcome to the club.

This happened to me in a Rover Sterling some years ago and I had to increase the revs to hold it still, and use the handbrake.  Check that your revs are as normal before going to your dealer.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Alistair, my xf s has never done this but I've heard it can happen if the incline is steep enough, some autos do it and some don't. Be interesting to hear what jag say good luck.

Thanks Gents.

The revs are an interesting point - it idles at about 750rpm, which I have though might be a little low?

Dave, that was pretty much the point about it being the same hill - my old one didn't roll back and I'm sure this one didn't until the last couple of days.

Have heard mention that the 8 speed box can make a difference but I'm sure something has changed.

Thanks again,

Alistair.

Hi Alistair,

I,m sure you will find its all down to the fluid flywheel and if the engines hot it doesn't hold you as it does when cooler

nothing to worry about some hold better than others .???

Thanks Frank, that's consistent with the behaviour.

Grattik - it does, it's just that I got used to not having to worry about it.

6 speed 750rpm.Should be closer to 850rpm for the 8 speed 3.0D
