Welcome to the Club, Mal.

Details of your X Type will help to resolve the issue and there are lot of X type owners in the club who will help.

And a little bit more information in your profile will also be of assistance.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi, sorry Peter it's a 2007 2ltr diesel it's done 85,000 seems to be n good nick I've only had it for 6 month, and it's been fine, I've checked the Oil and it's a little over the mark but otherwise it's fine, any advise would be appreciated

Hi Malcolm,

The 2 litre Diesel engine is a tried and trusted one, and I guess that it could be something other than the engine.

If it shudders on tickover is the first thing to look at, and if it doesn't try increasing the revs to about 2000 rpm - cruising speed.

If it doesn't shudder when stationary, someone with more mechanical expertise than myself might be able to point you in the right direction.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter. Thanks for the reply, I work away a lot so sometimes takes me a while to respond but I've checked on tick over and it's fine but starts to shake just below 2000 when stationary, most grateful of any help.

regards

Hi Mal,

It could be that the engine mounts, but as I said, those will more expertise could possibly off a solution.

Hi, I have the same problem with my 55 Reg Jaguar 2l diesel, around 91,000 miles. Think it might be something to do with the clutch as when it happens and I depress the clutch the shuddering stops and then I raise the clutch again it has gone away - until it happens next time. Am going to get my clutch checked out on next service in a month or so.

Shuddering has got worse and tends to happen around 2000 revs, but again no idea why this should be as it does not happen when idling, only when driving and can be anytime, engine cold or hot. Due for service soon but any advice on possible causes would be gratefully received so I can advise the garage.

Hi Dave

Sorry lots of questions for you

I presume your in neutral at this time?(quote above) do the revs fluctuate when the shuddering starts? is it difficult to change gears? smooth / clunky? does it only shudder in forward gears, or in reverse as well? has the car lost any pulling power? do you get any high pitch squeals when pulling away? have you noticed any difference in the feel of the clutch pedal?

Am in drive and engine turns over well apart from when it reaches around 2000 revs and cruising. If I increase acceleration or depress the clutch it stops the shuddering - for a while anyway but can reoccur at any minute. Only happens in forward gear as cannot imagine going at 2000 revs in reverse and reversing only tends to be brief. Once the shuddering had been overcome or has just gone away then pulling power seems to revert to normal. No high pitched squeals and no noticeable difference in the clutch pedal. Is a confusing and frustrating condition so any guidance would be most gratefully received.

I would agree with you it could be clutch related, although as Peter mentioned checking the engine mounts wouldn't hurt,

why don't you bring your service forward, and let the garage advise you? Would be interested to learn the outcome

Steve
