Please can anybody tell me how to remove the electrical contacts from the S-Type headlight connector?

I have included pictures of the offending article.

Having eased the rubber seals from the back of the wires, the contacts rattle around quite loosely but I can't seem to find out how to release them

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Paul

Does the Tan / Brown central section come away from the Black surround? If so it may open up (suitcase fashion) to let you remove each connector / wire?

If memory serves me, many years ago of course! I used pin nose pliers to pull the connectors out from the front, but if this is the only connector block you have I would seriously advise caution, when listening to my dodgy old memory

Hi Steve,

It might separate but I can't see how and don't want to force anything beyond its capacity to recover ;)

Each wire is sealed at the back with a rubber seal which makes me think the contacys should probably be removeable from the back of the connector but I have no idea where the spring clip might be.

Forgive me Paul, not a criticism but can you provide pics of sides / top / bottom? Are there any clips on the inside? It would seem to me that to manufacture the connector, they have to be two parts at least surely? I know you're probably already on that page but had to mention.

I'm seeing what looks like small red / burgundy coloured lugs from the back view were the wires enter, do they look like they could be the lugs holding the central section?

Those little red things poke through the back Steve. Looking on the inside there seems to be a soft rubber at the back of the connector which pokes through to form the small red bits you can see.

I can't see any clips anywhere

Not sure where this part sits in the car, but my dodgy old logic tells me maybe the rubber you mention is a seal from water ingress rather than electrical insulation?

I of course don't know how important the connector is for your project, but if it was mine (easy to say) I would try to manipulate those red things, to see if they do release the central bit, do you think they would be in the right place to fit the rear profile?

Steve, it's the connector for the headlight mate

The little red bits are merely locators as far as I can tell.

So 'dodgyoldgit' logic seemed to work (external rather than internal) I should change my profile name!

locators for what Paul?

edit

i of course did mean 'Doddery' not 'Dodgy'

I think they are there to locate the red rubber insert on the inside of the connector Steve. Yes, it is the waterproof sealer i think.

Hi Paul

this is a easy one, remove the grey or white bit from inside the connector, top picture, hard to tell color from pic, terminal screwdriver just flick it out

then under that, under each terminal, there a little square slot, in there a little plastic clip/catch that holds the terminal in

you want a bit on thin wire about 1mm, paper clip will do, with the end slightly flat, slide it in and move the clip away from the terminal and pull the wire out

the white/grey bit sits under the clip and is like a lock, so the clips cant be unlocked and the wire fall out

cheers

joe

Look forward to a full post on this Paul

Mine are better since fitting the Nightbreakers, but you did this also so interested to hear how you go with HID.

Cheers, Russ
