'Bury' Phone cradle??

just bought a 2007 X-type and it came with a Bury phone mount that appears to be wired into the system. I have not as yet found any bluetooth connection ( i'm guessing the cat may be a little too old for that), but i would like to make it hands free if possible through the car.

is it possible to safely remove update the cradle and its wiring OR do i need to look at a new earpiece for BT ?
