Hi Dave,

My X type had 17" wheels and gave a good comfortable ride, but I was told that 16" wheels would give a more comfortable one.  My son's x type estate 2.0D Sport has 18' wheels with no complaints.

When it come round to tyre changes, he will probably complain about how more expensive they are than his previous 16" wheels!

Regards,

Peter.

Ha ha that's a good point, cheers Peter. I think the present 18" wheels look slightly better but still undecided.

The main reason, of course, for large diameter whells, is to accomodate larger brakes so I think this isn't going to be a factor in your decision Dave.

So, comfort versus aesthetics.

When I first got The Princess she had 18" wheels and I was keen to try some 16" to see if there was a difference in comfort level. In fact, I could not discern any difference after a week of testing so went back to my 18" wheels and have been happy with both the look and the comfort

Thanks Paul

My old x type has the 16's so now I'll run the 18's for a while and see. I'm sure I can find some space in one of my tips, I mean garages to store the 16's.

Hi John,

Jaguar seem to have this peculiar habit of different wheels for different cars.

When I had my 18" wheels refurbished --  they were badly kerbed [not by me] and the cost for all 5 was just under £500, --  the Allow wheels specialist told me that he had a full set of  wheels the same size for £400 to fit an X type but not an s type.  My son bought them following a loan from Bank of Dad when two of his wheels were potholed.

I would be inclined to get a check from a main dealer.

Regards,

Peter.
