Good morning,

I recently purchased a Jaguar XKR from a dealer. One of the issues i have which the dealer seems reluctant to fix under the warranty is brake squeal from the front end. The car had new discs ans pads all round prior to purchase. I've been advised from a third party that the problem is down to cheap aftermarket brake pads rather than genuine Jaguar parts. I'd be interested to know if anyone has experience/views that could help me with this issue. Regards Phil

mine too has developed this problem--albeit not too bad.  Seems to get worse the hotter they get. I too have been advised that it is the brake pads. Trouble is with mine that it sits idle for long periods. Hopefully going to be a reasonably affordable fix.

Sounds similar. Genuine parts never cheap and don't really want to spend the money unless i'm convinced it will fix the problem.

Hi

My S-type R use to do it terrible, really loud and it had genuine jaguar pads

I have since changed to EBC red stuff, for 3 reasons, now they don't squeal, I get next to no brake dust and they stop better

But there not the cheapest

but usually with squealing brakes you just remove the pads, clean them, clean the slides and copper grease on the rear of the pad and usually stops it, but if yours has the brembo brakes then it a common issue on these, I know some people with brembo's say the only fix is to buy anti squeal shims, there use to be a guy on eBay that use to sell them, a thin stainless shim, that goes between the pad and the caliper and these are known to cure it, once and for all

cheers

I had the same with a Rover 418 Diesel.  I had Rover fitted pads that started to squeal.  My Rover was a company car and I had a Kwik Fit card, so took it there for new pads.  They said that they were worn and replaced them with pad that did not squeal.

When I took my car in for a service they main Rover dealership told me that the brake pads were practically worn out and were made of a softer material. They also told me that they had replaced them with Rover Parts  ----  no more squeals.

I went back and asked why the earlier Rover pads squealed and their excuse was that they had had a batch of inferior pads.

I always did like to see the box that parts came in and asked the dealer to do that in future, as it had been know that a dodgy mechanic would often use a part worn part taken from one car and keep the genuine one to sell on.

Peter.
