First off, sorry if there's a thread already..

I have 2003 (52 plate) x type 2.1 v6 sport (yes I know its the baby one - but I love it)

Problem is I'm getting rather confused over the tyre sizes

Should I have 225/45R17 OR 205/55R17 for normal everyday driving?

Currently has 205/55R17 but I think that's only due to it being the cheaper option at the time...

Seeing so many conflicting bits of information on the Web I'm now none the wiser.

If its like my 2.2 there will be a tyre information label near the hinges of the drivers door giving the tyre sizes fitted to your car.

hope this helps

cheers

I agree, it's very confusing.  I'm no expert but for what it's worth I think you'll have more options plumping for 225/45 based purely on supply and demand ... and more options means better prices. I guess it's a toss up whether the wider tyre or the deeper tyre will give you better comfort or indeed if you would ever notice the difference.  Interestingly, my research suggests that your car might originally have been fitted with 16" wheels so it may have been upgraded over time.  Maybe best to find a reliable tyre outlet to guide you, not forgetting that rim width also comes into play if you plan to change tyre width.

Thanks for the responses.

From what I can tell the 2.1 sport edition came with 17's on. :-), I think originally 225/45 as they are slightly lower profile than the 205's.

I'd checked the fuel cap flap, but no sticker so I suspect that got snapped off at some point and replaced with an after market one.

As for the ride vs grip etc... What a spiders web. One review I came across commented on how better the 225/45 felt vs the 205/55 (which he'd driven on another model)

From my research either can be used and the wheel  / tyre width isn't an issue. But as ever Getting too much choice... :-)

They do like to make it easy...
