hi everyone, i am struggling a little finding out how to loosen the main auxiliary belt tensioner on my x type 2.1 petrol v6. is there a special tool only i can see the 3/8 drive square but finding it impossible to get the ratchet in because of lack of room. is there a way of getting round this problem, i am trying to change the alternator which is producing nearly 16 volts.

remove the wheel, then remove plastic wheel arch liner, measure where the tensioner bolt is, then drill a hole with a tank cutter which you should be able to put a socket in to release the tensioner. place a rubber grommet in the hole after doing job. good luck.
