I have been offered a very good example of a 2007 XJ 2.7 diesel. Only problem is that the engine is a write-off.

Is it possible to fit the newer 3.0 Diesel engine as a replacement

sorry if this is a daft question

Welcome to the club, Don.

I don't think that it is a daft question.

The XF has the 2.7 litre Diesel in its earlier models and then changed to the 3.0 litre diesel, so I think that it could be a goer.

I hope an engineer agrees with me!

Peter.

Thanks Peter. There is logic in that. I'm just wondering how far I would need to change electrics or engine management system,if at all, now. Maybe an engineer will say or perhaps even have had  experience of it.

Hi

You would have a right nightmare

all your ecu's talk to each other and are coded to each other

the 3.0 engine would need its own ecu, so it would need programing to the car, transmission, traction, abs and many other ecu's

you would have to speak to a jaguar dealer to be sure

swapping the engine is the easy bit, getting everything to talk together and run is a different matter

cheers

Hi Don,

Joe has given you a definite answer.

My S type had an engine change by Jaguar under warranty in 2009 at 21800 miles.  I was told it was an Oil pump failure. Swopping with a similar engine should be quite easy for a skilled mechanic, and the 2.7 Diesel is a very good engine.

Peter.

Thanks to all for your replies. I think I will leave it alone. Dpf issues worry me anyway. I will wait for the right 3.0 petrol to show itself in the market.
