Hello,  Finally bought my first Jag 3 weeks ago, a 58 plate x type 2.2 litre diesel automatic, after always owning hatchback for the last 20 years, as well as manuals and diesels, it is a bit different to drive, to say the least! finally got the log book back from the DVLA last week, so was able to put my personalised plate on it, so now it feels like "my" car finally, i thought i would register here.

Hi Arthur.

Welcome to the Club.

The x Type with the 2-2 litre and 6 auto is a great car, but there are 1or 2 things to do and keep your eye on.

First is you need a Low Ash Engine Oil because the Engine has a DPFilter(WSS-M2C 934-B) is the Number for the Oil and this is not mentioned in the Handbook as the DPFilter was added to the 6 speed auto,before it was an optional extra. Only add 5.5 litres of Oil instead of 6 litres and only use Genuine Jag Fuel and oil filters.

I buy my own oil and filters and give them to the Garage to Fit them.

 

With diesel' s you have to drive them as if you had stolen the car or as some members do give it a Italian tune and make sure you give it a good long run every 3/4 weeks this is to help keepthe DPFilter from getting blocked, the car will do a Regeneration some times and it is difficult to know when a Regen is happening you may see a drop in miles per gallon or when stopping your exhaust will sound louder than usual if this is happening don't switch off the Engine because you should take the car for a 20 minute run when the Engine is at normal working temperature.Don't keep the Revs below 2000 all of the time.

Having had mine for 4 years I haven't had any problems with the DPFilter.

Thanks very much for the tips, i am most grateful!

trouble is, i am laid up after having an ingrowing toe nail removed, so can't drive her at the moment! If it had been my left foot, it would have been no problem, but alas its my right foot! I only do about 4 miles to work and back each day, but plan to open her up on the motorway on weekends.

Welcome to the club, Arthur.

Tom has offered some very good advice,  and all I can add is that I have never had a DPF problem, and I do a lot of short runs. I do use Shell V Power and would recommend it.
