Just bought a cherished 2006 low mileage (56k) S Type.

I have known, (coveted) this car for a number of years.

However, In all the time I have know the car it has had a problem with the locking system. The operating range reduces with temperature, when the car is left out in the sun for any length of time the key has to be held against cars body between the front wing and door shut line get the car to lock or unlock. This has been investigated a number of times but the weather has always been un co-operative when booked in for a service.

Can anyone shed any light, it would also be useful  to know where the receiver antenna is located.

Hi

I'm sure the locking and unlocking is done by the drivers door module

Its the drivers door module that receive the remote open and close from the remotes

you might have a faulty driver door control module, they can be bought off eBay quite cheap, but will need programing before it will work on your car

Thanks for the info.

This would make sense as it is where the key has to be near when the weather gets hot

i'll look into it further and report back.

Hi

Might be worth taking the door panel off and checking all the connection are good

or even the connectors are all the way in

cheers

On really hot summer's days, if my car is left in the sun, I've found my remote locking completely inoperative. I'm not the only one too as I posted about it before and had similar responses.

Wonder if it's related or what it is about hot atmospheric conditions that interfere with remotes and central locking?
