s type sports button

Featured Replies

Has anyone had this issue with the s type sports button, When I am driving along the red light on the sports button will light up without me touching it.I did not notice it on the test drive but did a couple of days after.I cannot tell if it's just the light coming on or if it is engaging sports mode by its self. As its the first jag I have owned and it seems to take off like a scalded cat sports mode on or off. I have floored it in all gears with sports mode on and off and a cannot feel any difference.Your thoughts on this, Please.Thankyou.

Hi Karl , i have a 3.0 X- type auto and in sport mode i can certainly feel the difference . In sport mode the car holds on to the gears longer before changing . Maybe you have a faulty button / loose connection . Maybe another member can shed some more light on your problem .

Regards ,

Andy .

to check if sports mode is working cruise along a dual carriageway at about 60 mph with it off, no red light. then press it, you should notice the revs increase as it changes down to fifth. If your gearbox is like mine you wont feel this happen.

They are very sensitive to a small touch and sometimes passengers knock it on, or even I do when my hand is resting on the transmission stick.

Thank's Andy and Gary for your replies. will check button connections and try pressing the button at 60 mph and see what happens.

Hi

would be interested to see how you get on, i noticed my button on the other day. Turned it off and noticed a day or so later it was back on. I turned it off and then re engaged sports mode at around 50 mph and felt no difference i.e drop a gear etc? forgive me for mentioning this but i used to have an Astra (company car not choice) and when the sport button was pressed in this it clearly dropped a gear and revved like crazy, is also sounded like a bag of nails.

HI

When I press the sport button in my car, it makes a positive click, check yours does

switch could of failed, spring broke inside causing it to come on and off randomly

cheers

Joe

Thanks Jo, mine doesn't have a click at all. It just takes a very light touch to turn the light on with minimal travel of the button. Think I will have to pop it out and have a look

Hi

At a guess its gone faulty then

Either the mech inside has broken or I've seen this if someone spilled pop on the button, making it all sticky inside

If there's any breakers near you that would be the cheapest option

cheers

You could be in fifth at 50 mph, mine doesn't drop at that speed, I don't have a click when pressing it.  It does drop a gear if I am doing 60, but it is hard to tell with these smooth boxes

Thanks

will give it a go at a higher speed before i start pulling things apart

I tried pressing the button at 60mph made no difference, cannot feel or hear a click when pressing the button so will look into cleaning if possible or replacing button.

Hi, I have noticed that mine turns itself on if you really floor it hard. Makes sense to me so maybe not a fault?
