Hi,

After searching many forums I thought I'd try my luck here as you seem a helpful bunch! After a couple weeks of owning my Jag XF 2.7D (2008), I got the dreaded warning on the Dashboard: "DSC not available - Restricted Performance", with the "DSC" light on, followed by the yellow Check Engine light. After some research it seems that the Battery might be the issue, so I got this swapped out for a brand new one. Unfortunately this didn't fix the problem as the engine light was still on, and the DSC light came back on after driving a few miles. Bought a cheap ODB2 reader from Amazon (they're great - it was delivered next day!) and the only code that came up was P140A, which I researched to be a problem with the EGR Valve. Although since it is a cheap OBD2 reader - I suppose there could be other codes just not showing up.

I am by no means a mechanic (or even a good DIYer) but I am willing to give anything reasonable a try. What are your thoughts on fixing this (aside from taking it to the local Jag Indy which I am thinking of doing anyway).

Is it worth trying to clean the EGR sensor which I read somewhere else? Also read that cleaning the MAF might help? Appreciate your thoughts all.

Thanks

Hi Stuart, and welcome to the club.

My s type has the same engine and I have also had an issue with the EGR valves, but not the DSC warning.

I use Shell V Power Diesel, which does seem to keep by engine working very well, and  I also use an additive, Millers Diesel Power ECO MAX which really does keep the egr valves clean.

I also think that you engine could have a Terraclean Service which is well worth the £120 or so that it will cost.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards

Peter.

Thanks Peter, I'll make a mental note about the additive. I have actually arranged for a engine cleaning specialist to pop over tomorrow lunchtime - so will see how that gets on. Thanks for your help.

So an update....

Had the engine cleaned by a local Carbon Cleaner and the engine seemed to run smoother (although this could be a bit of a red herring I suppose). Drove the car for 3 days with the code cleared and everything seemed fine. That is until today when the dreaded "DSC Restricted Performance" error popped up again. Stopped the car, checked for fault codes...nothing! Started the car again, and the error was gone and the car drove completely fine. It was as if the car had a temporary mental flashback and decided to let me know! Since then (and until today) it randomly pops the DSC error up on the dashboard, at completely random times, and clears as soon as I stop/start the engine. Buggered if I know what is going on - so its going into the local Jag specialist Monday. The annoying thing is I really want to trust this car, especially as I regularly drop the kids to various activities and just can't rely on it at the moment. Here's hoping it's not an expensive fix on Monday.....possibly EGR replacement?

It seems unlikely that the two things are related. The Dynamic Stability Control has more to do with your ABS and brakes than the exhaust system.

Hopefully it's as simple and cheap as a wheel sensor as it was on my last Jag

Hello all,

i know this is an old topic but any help would be gladly apreciated.

I drive a 2008 Jaguar XF 2.7 diesel, for the last 3 weeks i had the restricted performance amber light going on, mostly when i start the car in the morning or when slowing down. I started by changing the battery (it was 4 years old), the car drove fine for 2 days then back in RP mode. My mechanic scanned the car and it’s coming up P140-21A - Exhaust recirculation sensor C-circuit low.  He says that on the live data he sees both Egr working normally so he says there is the possibility that changing it will not cure the problem. But also doesn’t have any other solutions.

Any advice or people that have been in my shoes? I’m getting really frustrated by this problem.

Many thanks!

Hi Silviu,

My s type has the 2.7D engine which is the same as yours.

I did have the same issue  and after using an additive for a couple of years i had both egr valves replaced which solved the problem.

It might also be useful to replace the sensor.

Regards,

Peter.
