Has anyone noticed that some car flashers have become ridiculously small? VWs and Audis seem to be particularly bad but I noticed a Vauxhall today with an indicator so small that I wondered if it was flashing or not.

No doubt something to do with fashion trends or LEDs being brighter but I still think it's dangerous and ridiculous. Bring back big flashers. That's what I say.

Rant over.

I thought it was just me imagining things . Some of the newer cars have indicators that you can hardly see these days and on some models seem to be getting higher and higher up making them very difficult to see . I think it's more about styling than safety unfortunately .

Hi

Yes they are small

have you noticed now a lot of new cars, on the front, when they are indicating either the side or drl goes off and a fog light comes on, on the side that's turning

now that is strange

cheers

Hi Joe,

I suppose you've figured it out but this is how the Adaptive Lighting systems work on a growing number of cars. Initially it was restricted to the Head Lights only and the movement geared to the steering wheel angle. In some systems they extended the functionality to use the Fog Lights when making turns when the indicators were engaged.

I have this feature on my A8 which is very good indeed but - from time to time on dark roads I have had cars in front pull over to let me by because they thinking I'm flashing my headlights at them. Sometimes a little guilty about that but not so much when it comes to those that insist on going 10MPH below the posted limit.

The fact is that in this nanny state of ours speed limits are constantly being lowered. Many 30 limits are coming down to 20, which is incredibly difficult to observe.

Scotland is looking to reduce all 30 limits to 20, even on A roads. They have done this already in the borders, to see how it goes. It is utterly ridiculous in some instances.

Nobody minds reducing to 20 when passing schools and the like, but doing it for miles for no apparent reason is just awful.

However, you can get pulled over for driving too slowly: I saw it happen when an old guy was doing about 15 in a 30 limit. He was causing an obstruction, and the police obviously wanted to check whether he should be driving at all.
