Morning Everyone,

First time i've been on any kind of Forum for anything so here goes...

I had my rear break pads replaced by a mechanic who lives across the road from me. When this was done, apparently he had to disconnect the battery for 30seconds (something to do with resetting the handbrake)

Since then my central Locking system doesn't work. I'm assuming that i have to reset something. The key is communicating with the car, so its not to do with the key.

When you sit in the car and try and lock the car using the dash buttons - Nothing..

We have checked all the fuses and they are ok..

I'm reluctant to have any thing to do with going to a jag dealership as i've been poorly treated in the past (i will bore you on another post later on that one)

Desperate to get help on this one as i cant use the car in this state.

my car is a 2013 XF 3.0 Portfolio

Thanks

Hi

just had a quick look , cant find any info

at a guess it lost its sync with the car, its with rolling codes on the remote

your hand book says only a Jaguar dealer should replace the car battery and autodata says it can be done and there nothing special, apart from reseting all the auto stops on the windows

have you tried pressing the lock or unlock with 5 seconds of switching the ignition on

cheers

Hi Joe,

No change. i carried out the procedure to reset the windows as described on page 157 and i tried holding down the lock/un-lock button within 5 secs of switching on ignition...

is there a hidden menu on these models? theres one on the older models, i wondered if there is a reset within that.. if there is one?

Thanks

HI

They should work

only thing I can think of there a error in disconnecting the battery and its thrown a fault up

plugging in with Jaguar SDD will show any faults and might just want resetting

let us know how you go on

cheers

Hi Joe,

So i took car to the performance specialist and he put his machine on it and it had thrown up a lot of errors which he reset. Apparently it wasn't quite as straight forward as that but its all working now...

Lesson, Dont disconnect the battery!!!!

Thanks Joe for taking the time to try and help.

all the best

Hi

Its usually ok to disconnect the battery

as long as ignition is off, usually no problems

if there were a lot of errors, only thing I can think off, was battery was disconnected with the ignition on, causes every module to go into error/fault

glad you got it sorted and hope it was not too expensive to sort

cheers

Mark,

I had the same issue with central locking (but key was responding as it started the car). Only difference was it wasn't after a brake replacement.

Out of interest when it went to the performance center, what did they actually do to correct it?

Also did you get a copy of the error/diagnostic report before they cleared the errors?

Cheers

Dave

My central locking works ok except from the n/s rear door. Can anyone suggest anything. Is it a module or unit that is playing up, if so, where is situated? Jag xf 2.7 2009.

Had this exactly the same problem which Mark had with JAGUAR XF SPORTS SALOON 2013 to 2015.

I removed the batteries when engine was on. And my Car lost the key memory as well. Had to reprogrammed both of my keys back to normal. But centrel Locking still doesn’t work

I now have to go to the maindealers to sort it out as my car needs a maindealer machine to reset it

Please do not change or reset your batteries at home nor recharge them. If you want to do it make sure your car is fully switched off.

Thanks.

I had a problem very similar to this in that my central locking failed after replacing the main car battery. Everything other than the locks were fine and the fuel filler flap locked ok but not the doors or boot. I went to a local specialist and also my main dealer and they didn't have a clue what the problem was, the main dealer wanted to start stripping the doors and locking modules but I decided to do a little more research first!

I found a thread on another forum which was pretty much identical to this one and the poster reported that he had his problem fixed by a specialist in Milton Keynes called E & E Services. I called them up and they immediately knew what the issue was and how to fix it. I live a long way from Milton Keynes but just wanted to get it fixed so ended up driving up there this morning even though they offered to talk a local garage through the process on Autologic which apparently has a lot more workarounds than the standard Jag SSD system. The issue was that the door lock modules needed a security relearn and they did this in about 5 minutes! Then it was back on my way for the return leg of 110 miles...

If you've got this problem I'd definitely give E&E a call; I couldn't recommend them highly enough. I have no affiliation with them other than being a happy customer whose door locks now work again at minimal expense (particularly given that my local specialist wanted to change all the door locks and the local JLR main dealer wanted to strip the car!).

Thanks Simon!!!

My local Jaguar Dealer is telling me that I need two new modules and he has "made representations to Jaguar and they will pay 20% of the cost because it is a 'known fault'". Quite frankly I don't even think he's contacted Jaguar and is just trying to make a fast buck because he still wants me to pay nearly £1200!! even with my supposed 20% discount....

I've already sent an email to E & E Services to get it sorted. They are only 70 miles from me so I may just pop down and see them.

A real big hearty THANK YOU again!

I've just had my alternator replaced which involved the battery being disconnected, I too have this exact issue.  My only problem is I'm in cornwall.  Hoping to give e&e a call tomorrow and ask for there advice.

This doesn't appear to be a failure of any hardware but bad software, jaguar should fix this without charge in my opinion.

I am new to this forum and need some quick advice please. I had to call out the RAC for my XF a battery issue which turned out to be the alternator. The technician got the car started and the plan was to drive me to a garage with a battery pack attached. The car was running but then everything on the dashboard went off and then the car shut down. The smart key worked fine, opened the car and started it however, afterwards the car would not pick up the smart key. The RAC technician got the car started after approx 1hr 30 min of messing around using the sensor in the drivers footwell (diid not even know this existed, no idea with cars and four years of owning this car never had any mechanical issues)

the alternator was replaced by the garage, all good but the smart keys are still not being picked up. Jag tried to recode but couldn’t and they have said I have to replace the keys. A further £617 with recoding. I am at a loss with what has happened, I think it is something the RAC have done when disconnecting the battery and or applying the battery pack when the car was running. All I know is I have not had any issues with either of my keys and now they are not working??

I have key cover on my breakdown but they are not interested as they are saying I can’t associate it with anything and they must have been faulty.they also damaged my key... rubber seal off and plastic broken exposing electronic board... must have been dropped but nobody taking responsibility for this. 😡

What has happened here, any thoughts would be appreciated?

thank you

i have this same problem. an independent jaguar specialist here in the nw is stumped by whats gone wrong. he has checked the door mechanism and the central locking modules and they are working fine. i have contacted E&E in Milton Keynes and straight away he described the problems i am having. boot locks fuel filler cap locks and all lights flash as if its locking then the dreaded double beep and no doors locking with the fob or the interior buttons.Hatfields jaguar in Liverpool want £168+vat just to plug the car in. absolute robbery in my opinion. E&E said £90 and ut takes 30 mins to fix as its just a software fault. E&E will not share the fix with any one including jaguar, and i don't blame him.

i have contacted jaguar and surprise surprise lots of oh we are sorry your having a problem, but as the car is out of warranty we don't give a toss, and no we will not let you chat in any way with technical support as your not one of our franchises. anger, frustration and disgust are words that are just not strong enough for jaguar. this is a simple battery change that throws up a safety issue. owners are unable to lock their cars, jaguar are fully aware of this issue and refuse to take ownership of the problem.

are we owners really going to take this? i flatly refuse to pay £168 plus vat when every car in the world will at some point need a new battery. does any one have a remedy for this error?

Hi Wayne66

Did you get this sorted ? I have a 2014 xf sportbrake and have something similar, I am in Preston Lancashire

I drove up from Cornwall to Milton Keynes to get my issue sorted.  My local Jag just looked at me blankly when I presented him with the issues.

If you have this issue, take the drive at least you will know the cost up front.  E&e even replaced one of my faulty door latches the same day while I was waiting.  Very helpful.

Mine was from disconnecting the battery after alternator change, shouldn't happen in my opinion either for a wear and tear item like that.
