XF Central locking Malfunction

I have had to buy two new keys and have them recoded. RAC are not taking any responsibility for the fault which is what I expected. The thing is, Jag have said that it was probably something they have done but currently won’t commit to document that for me. I am none the wiser as to what has happened but it is booked back in jag as my reversing camera comes on and then goes off, stop/start is not working and the automatic lights are not working.

at a loss, £1100 spent so far.

I am having similar issues with my XF sportbrake. Car appears to lock and then the double beep. After several attempts I can get all doors locked apart from the drivers door. Now having to use manual key to open and lock.. can anyone advise on what I can do / where I can take it to be looked at. Am in London.

It’s in the owners hand book, no diagnostic tool required. Manually unlock all the doors inside the car, remove the emergency lock cover on the outside passenger front door handle, using the emergency key blade from inside the key fob turn and hold the lock to the unlock position and press and hold the unlock button on the fob and it should re-synchronise the key fob to the car.

I had an accident on my Jaguar XE and had to replace the right rear door including the module. The door and the module where from the same car (second hand) now when I tried to lock my car using the key fob all doors lock apart from that one! been checking with many people and plugin diagnostics but nothing is showing. When I press the lock button the key fob it makes the 2 beeps but no lights come on. 

Have anyone had a similar issue and willing to help ? or where can I take the car for repair ? I am based in London

Hi all, I've never responded to a forum before but I decided to join this one because I wanted to share my recent experience with my recently purchased 2013 XF Sportbrake . Just after buying the car I did a check for any outstanding recalls , there was just the one outstanding recall , an issue with airbag connections on the module near the centre console . I booked this in with Jaguar dealers not too far from where I live , they said ' it will only take approximately 1 hour ' . After the hour had passed my keys were returned to me , the car had been washed but then I was told that the central locking had a problem and if I wanted this to be looked at then I have to re-book it in at a cost of £170 + vat  just to find out why. To cut a long story short they were going charge me over £2000 to sort this out .It took 5 days and legal threats to get them to accept that they had created the central locking problem as a result of DISCONNECTING the battery for them to do the recall work . THERE IS A COMMON PROBLEM HERE REGARDING THE DISCONNECTION OF THE BATTERY JAGUAR KNOW ABOUT THIS , THERE IS EVEN A JAGUAR BULLETIN ON THEIR TECHNICAL WEBSITE THAT HIGHLIGHTS THIS PROBLEM.....JAGUAR NEED TO ACCEPT THAT THEY HAVE A PRODUCT HERE THAT HAS AN INHERENT ISSUE . WE THE END USER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PUT UP WITH A POTENTIALLY POORLY DESIGNED , SUPPOSEDLY " PREMIUM " VEHICLE .

The issue was that the door lock modules needed a security relearn and they did this in about 5 minutes! Then it was back on my way for the return leg of 110 miles...

If you've got this problem I'd definitely give E&E a call; I couldn't recommend them highly enough. I have no affiliation with them other than being a happy customer whose door locks now work again at minimal expense (particularly given that my local specialist wanted to change all the door locks and the local JLR main dealer wanted to strip the car!).

Hi mate thanks for sharing could you advise how much did they charge and if the issue is fully resolved after software update etc ?

 

i have similar issue on my Xf 2013 - door locks were absolutely fine until yesterday when I gave it a deep clean and car was unlocked for about 3-4 hours .. I didn’t strip anything was just cleaning under bonnet and interior.. now both rear  doors aren’t locking ..

My central locking not working after jag dealer change timing belt and major service they want 860pounds to replace the module they say is not working central locking was working ok when it went to them looking for help Scotland

I have this problem after an auto elec installed my front and rear dashcams and momentarily lost battery connection.

Now the key communicates, but central locking does not work from the console, or the keyfob, and my mirrors do not pull in of course, although I can do this by pressing my mirror buttons in together before exiting the vehicle. Just get a double beep when I try from fob.

His snap on diagnostics couldn't solve it, and I have booked into Rybrook Jaguar on Friday.

£145.00 plus VAT for the hour diagnostic initial inspection, and hopefully, they can reprogram it within that time.

There is now plenty of information available about the total loss of central locking facilities after the main battery is disconnected for any reason.  It seems this affects X250 Facelift XF models.  Below is a copy of my post on a Facebook site following my personal experiences.  It seems Jaguar are refusing to take ownership of this software fault and are charging a fortune to replace components that should be done FOC.  If you have this problem and take your car to a Jaguar dealership, be prepared for a large bill.  Contact one of the companies in my post and the problem will be solved at a reasonable cost and in minutes.

A job on the car last week needed the battery disconnecting for the duration. It was reconnected about 30 hours later. All of my central locking function was gone. Pressing the lock button on the remote or any door handle button gave an immediate 2 beep fault.. The interior lock & unlock buttons did't work either. Forum & social media research showed this to be a fairly common problem following a battery disconnection. A problem that Jaguar dealer workshops seem to be oblivious of. There are several instances where dealers have had cars several days and ended up replacing modules at big cost to owners.

It transpires that an Autologic diagnostic tool can fix the problem in 10 minutes. Most Jaguar workshops & many independents apparently don't have this kit.

For the information of all unlucky enough to suffer this problem I have found 2 places that have the kit, know of the problem and have fixed many cars.

Talking to the technician yesterday they don't know why this happens, what makes it happen or how to stop it happening. They think that the less time the battery is off the less likely it is to happen.

I hope this info helps anyone in a similar position.

(This has nothing to do with the other well known problem of failing door lock mechanisms.)

thanks so much - I was looking at £760 to replac central Junction Box when central locking stopped workign after old batter failed durign cold weather.  I saw this post, called E&E in Milton Keynes, went straight there and 15 mins work he had fixed it!  Very pleased.  His AutoLogic machine is more capable than the Jaguar Diagnostic system and he can reprogram the modules.

Hi thank you for the info had to jump start my XF yesterday and the same thing happened tail gate worked ok but the four doors all stopped working and would not lock even the close and open buttons on the dash board stopped working found your post rang MDM Coalville today problem sorted in 10 mins cost £60.00 well worth it, again than you for the info.

I had the same with you which was resulting in the drivers door unlocked warning on the dash. Squirting WD 40 inside the handle mechanism and also the lock mechanism on the side of the door has resolve the problem seems to be possibly a sticking actuator or something of that nature.

Hi,

My mechanic changed the A.C compressor in my Jaguar xf (2015- Diesel). When he finished with putting the new a.c compressor, then after that my car’s central locking system stopped working.

Even i could not able to lock thr car from dash buttons. But i can start the car and drive around, no problem at all.

But i cannot lock my car for safety??

Can please someone tell me, what’s wrong with my and what have caused it??

My mechanic is not ready to take the responsibility of this??

What should i do now?

Harman, this is definitely exactly the problem that I have described above.  It only affects x250 Facelift XF modelS.  Jaguar are aware of it but refuse to take any responsibility for it.  You have 2 options, either a Jaguar main dealer with a bill of around £1500 or a Jaguar specialist who has the Autologic equipment with a bill of under £100.

I have been to Jaguar dealer and they told me central junction box and auxillary box have failed and need replacement which is worth $5500 NZ dollar which is too much i think.

Ouch!! That's a big hit!! Do you have any jaguar independent specialists in NZ? If so, I suggest that you try asking them if they use the Autologic Diagnostic equipment.  If they do they should be able to help you.  Also you could try contacting Autologic to see if anyone local to you subscribes to their service. They were very helpful to me here in the UK This is their Aus link.  https://au.autologic.com/  Hope you get it sorted.

Wow, nearly £3000!!!!

Just wondering how much an Autologic setup would cost and if not disallowed sell it afterwards.

REASONS NOT TO BUY A JAGUAR

1. Need to replace junction boxes if you disconnect the battery

As something of another follow-up to this post it seems there is something of an increase in the number of Indepenent JLR service centres that have Autologic that are working out the fix. I've got to have the timing belt on my XF changed imminently and I'm looking to see where the best place to do it will be. If I take it to my local Jaguar main dealer I know they'll try and rinse me for the official fix when the security module inevitably fails as a consequence of disconnecting the battery!

As such I was doing some more digging to find alternative solutions to this and came across a thread on another owners club forum which showed a way of buying a cable with an 'unofficial copy' of the JLR SSD software which would allow you to reset the immobiliser module which appears to temporarily resolve the issue (the only long-term fix is the replacement of two junction boxes at great expense!).

If you look for the post from Viyasan7 from November 2019 he describes the fix and the kit that's needed. This might be a better solution for those of you that aren't near an Autologic-capable Indy. There were some caveats about clone cables and I haven't done this myself so it's very much up to you as to whether you go ahead with it.

There was mention of a TSB and indeed there is, but the only one I could find was for the North American market so perhaps that's the reason why the UK/EU/RoW dealers look blankly when we describe the problem. The TSB number is JTB00545NAS1 and here's a link to what it shows:

It's interesting how the TSB suggests reprogramming the immobiliser module as part of the fix, but only after the two junction boxes have been replaced. It would seem that this step, if done on its own, would be a temporary fix but perhaps JLR aren't prepared to only offer this step. I think it's a !Removed!-take that this issue, which is clearly a systemic failure of a part that should last longer than it has, is being ignored and the high costs being passed to us.

There is a TSB for the UK market. The dealer used this to get Jaguar to pay for replacing the two boxes after the locking failure whilst carrying out a recall fix that needed the battery being disconnected. Sorry, I do not know the reference of the TSB that they used.

Just a thought, but has nobody thought of taking Jaguar to the small claims court over this? Its relatively affordable and it can all be done online now. The company would have to turn up in court with a team of lawyers to defend the case and in most cases wouldn't even bother if its a small amount because it would be more time, tricks and expense than it's worth fighting the claim.

With the information on this forum, which includes an admission from Jaguar I noticed early on in the thread, its the sort of thing that when presented with an invoice and the threat of a court claim they would probably pay up on "as a courtesy", especially if you hint that you're going to post it on social media. 

For those of you with legal cover on your insurance, try talking to them, it might help you to get your money back or get the job done for nothing by Jaguar. 

 

Incidentally, Jagmanz also posted this fix above, but nobody seems to have taken any notice of it:

I only mention this again because I was talking to somebody earlier today about this, and basically all that happens is that the locking system needs resetting after a battery disconnection. The guy I spoke to had the same problem and fixed his simply by resetting the system, exactly in the way Jagmanz describes above. You might have all being paying out large sums of money for nothing. I'm damned if I would have paid a penny if the system had been working fine when I took it in.

Common problem for cars in general these days, disconnecting the battery messes with all sort. AA/RAC switch your can on to a backup battery/power source if they replace to stop this happening.

Yes, fine if you want to pay double the price for a new battery.
