I have a 2005 S type 4.2 v8 my battery has gone dead and my valet lock does not work seeing it has never been used is there a way to put a little power to the trunk just to open it ??

My first thought would be hooking up another battery with jumper cables, having the negative on to the engine block and the live on to the big permanent live cable at the starter motor solenoid. I don't know the practicalities of this as I've never done it but I can't think of a more direct route to get juice to your battery.

I locked my keys in the boot once and had to break a window (I'd rather not talk about it). Cut a T shaped slit in the parcel shelf above one of the speaker holes and managed to grab the release cable for the seat back and fold it forward to get in the boot. It would be tight to get to the battery but desperate times and all that.. The cut in the shelf doesn't show.

There will be a manual key hole under the plinth to the near side. Key in vertically upwards, twist, open :)

I thought that was what he meant by valet lock.

Hi

if you cant get the boot open, then its under bonnet

depending on which car you have, if you can get to the starter or alternator, they are connected direct to the battery

but i would no start the car, just power it up and open the boot, then either change the battery or leave it on charge over night

jump starting the car, will cause low voltages on the car and will throw loads of faults up

if you can't get to the starter or alternator like me, there's no space in the engine bay on the s-type r

the other place is drivers side wheel arch, pic below,

but get that boot lock oiled up and next time just use the key

cheers

Joe

Would it be worth spraying some lube/ penetrating oil (WD40 or similar) in the 'valet lock' and fettling with this? Even with no power, the key will manually open the boot on my X200, not sure if there is the same set up on a 2005 model. If the lock is dry or seized, it might be easier to give this a few minutes and just a few £/$ for a can of spray...
