The infamous 1-9 SRS code

My car has developed the infamous 1-9 SRS fault code.

We've changed the clock-spring cassette, driver's air bag and passengers air bag to no avail.

Any ideas please?

how many flashes do you get on the airbag light when you switch the ignition on

That's what I meant by 1-9 Joe. 1  Long and 9 short - indication front air bags or cassette

I'd be inclined to re-check the wiring and electrical contacts in the wheel and then if necessary at whatever module they lead to. I don't know what form these take as I've never had mine apart but as the components that the code relates to are presumed good then they have to be the next suspects.

cant find 9 short flashes, on jtis they start at 12 flashes and up

what do you get when you plug sdd in

SRS fault codes

I had code 19 flashing at me shortly after I bought my S type. Its definitely airbag/clock spring related as you say. Bet my seller thought there was a serious problem and wanted to part with it, but in reality i just took the clock spring out and cleaned all contacts with wd40 - no issues for 18 months now! As Lazlo said, I would check every single connection point and clean them up. Its a common area for dirty connections.

Just looked on autodata and they give a different method of reading the flash code, put it below

if you plug in it will give you a B code which will give you more info

Thanks Joe but that is the same as Jaguar's own version.

You get three sets of 1-9 before the light remains on for the rest of the time.

could this be it, there nothing with 3 set of 9 flashes

continuous flashes, could be a bad connection on the front crash sensor

I'd plug in your mongoose lead and see what comes up

I'd check the wiring between the steering column and the air bag module

do you use the auto setting on the steering column, could there be a break in the wiring

if you have changed the airbag and clock spring, has to be wiring between clock spring and air bag module

if you unplug the air bag module and remove clock spring, airbag and test the wiring between the two

The wiring from the cassette to the airbag is integral with the cassette Joe so was changed when the cassette was changed.

Hope to get the time to get SDD on it today.

If it's wiring, it going to be from the steering column back to the airbag module, favourite steering column area because all the movement.

Sorted.

It was the short loom from the back of the cassette down the steering column.

I bet previous owner used the auto mode on the steering column

I turn mine off, seems daft every time you get out the column moves out the way and when you get back in the column comes back out

must cause them wires to flex a lot
