Hi all, just had car returned from a so called jaguar repair body shop following a serous rear end collision, apart from a whole issue of other things that I have on going with the repair I've noticed a small cable hanging pathetically on the underside of the boot lid that resembles something from a child's bike brake cable with a small nipple on the end that I can only assume is some sort of internal release. The thing is it wasn't there before !!!! Can anyone shine some light, is it from the American market ? 2011 xf s premium 3.0 diesel.

Thanks dave

S-types have a short wire rope cable running from the boot lock mechanism to the release solenoid as do many cars. Although of course it should be hidden behind the trim panel.

Does the boot work normally and what happens if you pull the cable in question?

I like the idea that it's an American spec thing, Goodfellas would've turned out very differently if they had had internal boot lid releases...

Thanks for replying laz, yes boot works fine, nothing happens just feel a bit of resistance on cable, might be a different story if I locked myself in the boot and give a pull, chances are it would open, it feels like that's what it's going to do. The thing is if my car has been repaired to spec it shouldn't be there.

Hi Dave, I have two yellow pull knobs up inside of the boot lid to drop the back seats down, same model but 2009 one on the ns  and one on the os these have a slight resistance to them when pulled. CheersAlan

Hi Dave, I'm well thank you and hope alls good with yourself . I have just pulled back my boot lining in that area and I have the small rectangular hole cut into the boot lining where your cable protrudes but in the boot lid I have a small 5mm dia hole with nothing coming out of it ( obviously where you have the cable coming out ) looks like you have had an upgrade to the premium lux . I should blag it and tell Jag they forgot to fit the handle on it , whatever it is ?

Sorry to hear you had a shunt and hope the damage is only to the car.

All the best for now Dave ill be interested to find out what the cable is for.

cheers Alan

Hi

I think thats normal, there should be a plastic type pull on it

Its for releasing the boot from the inside, should one get trapped in there

or I assume the boot mech fails, drop the rear seat and pull to open

cheers

Hi

Dave

I have a 2010 XF 3.0D Luxury and in the handbook it refers to an emergency release for the boot lid as Joe points out , however I do not have one and when I enquired of Jag none of the technicians could recollect ever seeing one on this model. Thanks to the picture you posted I found ~I had the same slot in the lining for the boot but nothing else.  I do not know therefore if this was a facility for another market, an earlier model , or provision for a facility not yet fitted.  Can any others indicate if earlier or later models had such a facility?

Thanks for raising this as you appear to be the first to have seen any real evidence that such a facility might have been provided at some stage/market on the XF.
