S Type park brake fault codes

I bought a 2007 2.7D S Type about 3 months ago (78k miles). The service history mentions a parkbrake fault being investigated in 2013 and 2015, on both occasions HA Fox reset the system and stated a new parkbrake module would be needed if it happened again. No replacement parts were ever fitted.

I have had intermittent problems with the same fault since purchase, and new rear brake pads and a new battery have not cured it. Recalibration done of course. The fault seems to be after driving the car from cold on short journeys of up to 5 miles, such as a school run. When returning to the car after, say, 15 minutes, the fault appears and is able to be cleared by disconnecting the battery for 10 seconds.

My indy mechanic has put it on diagnostics and found the following fault codes:

DTC                    ECU             Description  

1800-00              PBM            Motor engage current reached before full apply travel distance

1802-00              PBM            Motor engage current not reached or travelled too far on apply


Now I'm no expert, but the above faults seem to be the opposite of each other, so whats going on?  I am told there is no problem with the wiring or cables and that it may be the parkbrake module or the parkbrake motor but neither could be identified as definitely the culprit.

So which part do I replace first?

I have had the same problem with my S Type 2.7D on an 07 plate.  Also affected by cold weather.

My mechanic checked out the park brake system, the module and the wiring, and found all was OK.  After being annoyed with it for two years I replace my battery last December and have not had the problem since

My battery was a Varta fitted  by jaguar and was 4 years and 11 months old.  I would check out your battery and if it is around 5 years old I would  replace it.

That sounds like a stiff cable or stiff\seized handbrake caliper, as its reaching a overcurrent before its reached it taught position

Don't thinks it's the module, it would do it more often and at random times

Only other thing it could be is epb motor, as they don't put much grease in the gearbox from the factory and they can go stiff

Also disconnecting the battery will clear the fault, but make sure you have stereo code,  or you can just unplug the epb module which will clear it and won't effect any thing Else on  the car

First of all apologies, not been on much lately but then I started having problems with the Freelander, G/Box so sold it on and bought a Jeep Cherokee.  Needed a few things sorting as second hand motors do.  But can you believe it the G/Box is playing up, thankfully it's a manual so no huge costs.

Anyway not been driving the Jag much, done a little over 200 miles in over a month.  On the way into work last night had a H/B fault on the dash, can't remember the what it said but managed to get it into a lay-by and out of harms way.  Switched it off, re-started it, still there, did the same and it cleared but with the EML light on.  Work was only a short distance away so managed to get it there safe and sound and parked up.  When I went to it this morning (work nights) it was fine and drove as one should.  Just checked the battery and it's showing 12.1 volts, the Jeep on the other hand with its new battery is showing 12.7.  The battery is the original, it has Jaguar written on it, so guessing it's 12 years old????   I've booked it in for its MOT and service on Tuesday, will ask them to check the H/B just in case.  But think it deserves a new battery anyway.

Sorry for the hijack of the post, but think it's always good to keep similar problems together.
