Hi,Ipickedup my grandchildren at Edinburgh Airport at midnight last night and then drove the 60 miles home on the A701 which is a winding country road in complete darkness.I was not too impressed with the headlights on my X Type and I think I have read on here that I can obtain better bulbs to improve the lighting.

Hi Walter,

I have it on good authority that you need to try Osram Night Breaker Unlimited or Philips X-Treme Vision +130% as apparently they are the best "halogen" bulbs you can buy and are available in H1 fit. They give the most light where you need it.  Try this link ... http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/jaguar-car-bulbs.html

Hi  Walter , as you say the oe bulbs are very poor indeed . I have Phillips Diamond vision in mine , which are considerably better and have a more modern white look . There are plenty to choose from at various prices on e-bay , also Halfords sell brighter bulbs which should be the H1 fitting .

Cheers ,

Andy.

I am thinking of going to Halfords to have the `sram of phillips bulbs fitted.

The 07 s type does not have fog lights to support headlights, and although I don't do much night driving I do like to see some of the road!

Hi

I've fitted hid bulbs before and there loads brighter,

Also you need to check the adjusters on your headlights, as there prone to going brittle and snapping, they make the beam droop and give really poor visibility, if you remove the cover from the rear of the high beam, hold the Bulb holder, if it feels loose and moves up and down easily, then the adjusters have broke, you can get the adjust off eBay and are easy to replace

Cheers

I have wondered about changing the headlamp bulbs in my car for months, so I'm glad to have found this post.  However, just yesterday I hit a pothole on the near-side of a lane - I do live in the sticks a bit - and I think the problem Joe alludes to above (adjusters snapping) has happened!  The nearside headlight beam has dropped significantly, so has anyone details of what to ask for and where to get the new adjusters from?  Also, are they really easy to fit and re-adjust (I'm not very technically minded)?  Many thanks....great forum!   Graham

Are these really plug and play Ron?

I'm very keen to see if their beam pattern is reasonable through a standard halogen type s-type headlight.

I've seen some downright dangerous beam patterns with aftermarket HID lights.

Any updates please Ron?

There is a thread elsewhere showing them in use on an XJ. The light output looked amazing. However, they had to be fixed in to place with duct tape, a practice which I'm sure the average UK MOT tester might object to.

I'd been noticing the outer poly-carbonate light covers on my 2005 'X' type were turning quite yellow. I was also aware that

the light output wasn't as good as I seemed to remember. I do very little driving now, let alone night driving, under 3K last

year. I'm a model maker railway/aircraft and decided to polish off the top surface of the plastic. I used various grades of

wet-n-dry, well lubricated, probably started with 220 grade, went through to 1000 and then micromesh to 9000. This leaves

the surface a fine dull white. I then polished with Brasso - for as long as it took to return my lights to a clear white looking

'glass'. Not only does it look much better, but gives a considerable improvement in emitted light.
