Only just joined the club so not sure if this topic has been covered before.  I've have from new (a little over 2 years) my 2.2D XF Sportbrake and have long thought the turbo lag/very slow to react gearbox combined to make the car very dangerous to be driving in certain situations and wondered if others agree.  My concern, when approaching a roundabout and slowing from speed to just a few miles an hour looking for a gap to proceed.  Upon applying throttle.....even to the floor, nothing happens whilst the gear box drops down to its desired cog and the revs are so low the car moves at a snails pace........exposing me to oncoming traffic on the roundabout.  This situation in transient but feels like a lifetime when an oncoming car is almost upon you then suddenly, it all comes together propelling the car forward at a rate of knots capable of causing whiplash.  I discussed this with a technical guy from my servicing dealer and he conceded it was a problem with the design/set up.  I've had 5 Audi/BMW's with similar type and size of engine prior to opting for my XF and don't recall experiencing anything like this with them.  really unhappy with this situation as it makes the car seem unsafe to drive

Hi Rob, and welcome to the club.

I have come across the "lurch" occasionally, but it has not been a serious issue.  Mike has made a good suggestion, and it might be worth taking that option a bit further by putting the gearbox manually into third gear and running it for a few miles, slowing down and accelertating occasionally, [traffic and safety permitting].

I do know that gearbox problems have been cured by a gearbox Oil change.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter.
