Hello, Some of you might know my cat has been misfiring, I have thrown allsorts of money at it now and its still misfiring, I have checked the sparks, they have all been changed by previous owner (they still look new), I have tried a coil test im not 100% sure if i have done this correctly, Its amazing how much a broken car can cause family problems, So im on here asking if anyone at all can come and help me fix this misfire or at least find the cause , I know its cheeky but i paid 1200 for the car and so far racked up 600 on bills, I really dont want to scrap it, I dont have alot of money but can supply endless cups of tea and bacon sandwiches :), Thank you.

HI

Have you checked the hoses for any splits

if there's a split in a hose it will cause it to run lean, because its sucking unmetered air from the split  and misfire

the easiest way I've found to find splits in induction hoses, is to use easystart, with the engine idling, spray it around the induction hoses, if there's a split hose the easystart causes the revs to raise, giving you a close are to look at

Ideally you want someone with Jaguar IDS/SDD to fault find on it, don't if there's any body on here near you

what engine does your car have

cheers

Joe

Hi Joe, Thanks for the advice, Not sure if this will help diagnose but the car runs amazing when cold but as soon as it warms up it starts misfiring and limits me to 40mph, Its the V8 4.0 Petrol, I changed the fuel filter 2 days back hoping that would fix it but no :(

Hi Daryl

Are you an RAC / AA member? if so, it may be worth a phone call, they may be able to suggest something, I think they will have the kit to diagnose and its free!

just as an aside, are you by chance losing coolant / Oil?

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve, I was with AA but i swapped that over to my other car i have to use whilst the jag is off road, Theres no Oil leaks as far as im aware.

you will need to check out the criteria that needs to be fulfilled by the AA but i'm sure that 'ANY' member can call for assistance in 'ANY' car! so if you know someone who has membership it may be worth a punt? but as I say just check that out first, as I may be wrong.

I mentioned Oil / Coolant as my thoughts were possibly Head Gasket, so fingers crossed you can rule that one out!

Maybe this is a bit obvious, I know i shouldnt have taken the cat out for a drive but i had to get the battery charged up, I noticed a burning rubber smell , Would that point to a vac leak?

Have you had it scanned at all yet? I know I was suggesting the coil testing/swapping but if you're not confident that they're good then scanning the car may be the way forward at this point.

I've got a cheap scanner that doesn't do Jag specific stuff like ABS etc. but it does engine codes. You know what, if you PM me your address I'll post it to you.
