Hi there, one and all.  I'm a new member from Preston, Lancashire and also a first time Jaguar owner.  I have recently purchased an 04 S Type 2.5 V6 auto.  It is a one owner from new vehicle with 27k miles and absolutely everything still works!.  I completely went against my car buying instincts and purchased the first one I sat in/drove!.  Obviously I'm hoping for a painless ownership experience, only time will tell.  It great to see a wealth of knowledge in these forums and, no doubt, our paths will cross in the future.

Hi Matthew, and welcome to the club!

That sounds like a lovely S Type, and we would love to see a picture or two.

My XK was a similar mileage when I bought it 3 years ago, and has been 100% reliable ever since.

I am now touching wood!

Glad to hear your XK is performing well. Although I havent got equipment to do heavier maintenance myself, I like to think I'm mechanically sympathetic and complete maintenance/get maintenance completed in a timely manner. I will post pics when I have worked out how to.  Its got 'chrome' embellishments on it.  Its not my thing, but I've grown to like them!.

Looks good!

Like yourself, I am not usually into embellishments, but with the silver paintwork they do look as though they belong.

Welcome to the club, Matthew.

The S type is a great car, and you seem to have got a gem.  I always thought it a pity that Jaguar discontinued the use of the 2.5 V6 when the 2.7 diesel came in in 2004.

A friend of mine bought a similar model to your  when it first came out --  bright red . I have not seen him for over a year but he still had it and he said it is very smooth to drive even at 17 years old.

I drove back from Devon last Saturday and it just took 3 hours and 37 minutes with a short break, and returned 48 mp over 198 miles. I never exceeded 70 mph and used cruise control all the way back --  the car is so comfortable it is so easy to do long mileages.

Preston is one of my favourite locations and the reason is a very long story.

Regards,

Peter.

Many thanks for all your kind comments about the car.  I am chuffed to bits with it at the moment and long may it continue!.  I agree with it being a comfortable place to sit for long mileages. I'm amazed how well they ride yet they go where you point them without getting ruffled!.  I can't take the credit for this next pic (its one that Google adjusted and then said look what we've done for you) but I like to think the designer was pleased with his work!.  I am!.

Hi Matthew (or do you prefer Matt?),

Welcome to the club and the gossip that goes with it. All of it amusing and a great deal of useful and helpful information. Hopefully, you will not need so much of the latter. Enjoy the Jag, just like kids it'll give you some occasional grief but you will never want to be parted.

By the way she looks tasty - and with low miles you should have lots of good times ahead.

Cheers!. Namewise, I respond to either!. There are no problems either way with that!.  We'll be keeping this one a long time.  My wife is as smitten with it as I am!.

The ladies, it seems, can never resist a Jag. But as my other half says through, the bloke that goes with it! Hmmmmmm.

Ha ha, like it!.  You could always reply "well, its the Jag that always puts a smile on my face!"..... but perhaps on second thoughts, maybe not!
