Hi Ernie, and welcome to the Club!

Firstly, I would want it to be in my preferred colours, both inside and out. No point in compromising there, because the colours are not going to change!

I would then want it to be absolutely immaculate both inside and out, and you should check all of the electrics that you can, to make sure that everything is working properly.

You will obviously be taking it for a test drive: Make sure it pulls cleanly throughout the rev range, that the gear changes are smooth, and that there are no rattles.

It should handle with precision, and brake smoothly.

You will no doubt check its service history. If possible also find out what kind of journeys it has been used for: The DPF can give rise to problems if it has done mostly short trips.

thanks for the response Leo

i have had a test drive and as you say it is far and above what i am used to, the car as done less than 20,000 miles so not used that much, everything electrical works as i checked all that out, the purchase is being made from a main dealer and will include a 2 year warranty

kind regards

Sounds good Ernie!

Do check that warranty though, so that you know exactly what is (and more particularly what is not) covered.

Low mileage is great in terms of wear and tear to the bodywork and the interior, but not necessarily as far as the engine and the DPF is concerned.

Low mileage often leads to problems with the DPF, unless the low mileage came from long journeys, which would be unusual.

I would not expect the DPF to be covered by the warranty.

What kind of mileage do you intend to do? If you intend to make mostly short journeys you need to bear in mind the possibility of problems with the DPF. This is not peculiar to Jaguars: The same is true of all modern diesels since they will all have a DPF.

I don’t want to discourage you at all: The XF3.0D is a great car and I am sure that it would put a long lasting grin on your face - I know that mine did that to me - but I just want you to be aware of the potential DPF issues when you make your decision.

hi David

thanks again for the advice, the car will be used mainly as a 2nd vehicle travelling from Manchester to morcombe at weekends, around 125 mile trips so should be ok, as i have another vehicle i use to pile on the mileage, thats what happens when you work 30 mile away from where you live, on the odd occasion it would also do this trip but not often

regards

Sounds all good to me Ernie: That should keep the DPF as happy as can be achieved with UK traffic and speed limits!
